The comedian, Chris Rock has finally broken his silence as he finally addresses the Will Smith Oscars slap that occurred on the night of the Oscars. The stand-up comedian who has been quiet about the incident, even when everyone else seems to be giving their hot takes and opinions, spoke publicly about it for the first time since it happened during a sold out comedy show in Boston on Wednesday night. Fans were excited to hear Chris Rock address the Will Smith slap.
The audio clip which was posted on Instagram by Variety features the comedian communicating with the audience and them responding back. “How was your weekend?” the clip started with Rock asking the crowd, and them seemingly laughing in response. “I don’t have like a bunch of sh*t about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend and I’m still kinda processing what happened, so at some point I’ll talk about that sh*t- and it will be serious and funny,” he continued.
Some members of the audience kept chanting ‘F*uck Will Smith!’ before Chris Rock continues in the clip saying; ‘I’m gonna tell some jokes. It’s nice to just be out,’ he finished.
On Sunday night which Rock described as “the greatest night in history of television” after famous actor Will Smith, walked up to the stage and slapped him across the face following a joke he made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Jada, I love you. G.I Jane 2 can’t wait to see it,” was the joke he made about her bald head which Rock might not have been aware that it’s as a result of alopecia which the actress has spoken about. The actress rolled her eyes in response while her husband who was sitting right beside her laughed out. Noticing his wife, Jada Smith’s reaction, Will walked up to the stage and slapped the comedian and then walked back to his sit to continue cursing him out.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth,” Will Smith yelled back at the comedian.
Lots of different reactions have surfaced from celebrities and fans as regards the incidence. While some have supported Will’s action with excuses, others have condemned it and praised Rock for his composure. Even at that, Smith has since issued an apology through his Instagram, and according to the Los Angeles Police department, Rock has refused to press charges against the actor for the slap.
