The Wonder Years has reportedly been cancelled by ABC.

After two short seasons, the comedy series, which was a remake of the same-named 1988 program, was axed by the network, according to Deadline.

In the most recent iteration of The Wonder Years, 12-year-old Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams) tells a coming-of-age tale about a Black middle-class family residing in Montgomery, Alabama, in the 1960s.

The series was narrated by Don Cheadle as an older version of the protagonist, and according to ABC, “Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their ‘wonder years’ in a turbulent time.”

The Wonder Years, a Saladin K. Patterson production, also starred Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh as Dean’s parents, Bill and Lillian Williams, and Laura Kariuki as Kim, Dean’s sister. The characters of Cory, Brad, and Keisa, respectively, that Amari O’Neil, Julian Lerner, and Milan Ray played as Dean’s buddies.

In addition to Paladin, Bob Daily, Marc Velez, and Lee Daniels served as executive producers on the 20th Television production. Before being terminated for alleged inappropriate behavior, Fred Savage, the lead actor in the first Wonder Years, also executive-produced the sequel.

The 22-episode first season of The Wonder Years debuted in September 2021, however, the 10-episode second season didn’t air until this past June.

According to TV Series Finale, The Wonder Years‘ viewership decreased by around 25% overall and by 50% in the 18-to-49 age group between Seasons 1 and 2, possibly as a result of the midsummer schedule.

This season, ABC also got rid of Big Sky, Alaska Daily, and The Company You Keep. Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds‘ are still up in the air at the network.
