Je’Caryous Johnson, recognized producer, director and writer is back at it with a new production.  Je’Caryous Johnson Entertainment, the company that brought us The Set It Off Stage Play and the New Jack City Stage Play, is gearing up for one of his biggest shows yet, Super Freak: The Rick James Story!  And now we know, Mint Condition’s Stokley stars as Rick James.

Stokley Williams has an amazing voice, and the music knowledge, having been in the business since the early 90s as a musician.  While he doesn’t have much theater experience, a musical is the perfect fit for him.

Super Freak: The Rick James Story synopsis

The stage bursts to life in the gritty streets of Buffalo, the backdrop for the arrival of the King of Punk Funk, Mr. Rick James.

Standing 5’11” with his iconic braids and leather-clad body, Rick’s flamboyant and unruly stage persona takes center stage. Super Freak: The Rick James Story” brings Rick James’ turbulent life to the stage, creating a musical extravaganza that immerses the audience in a vibrant and sensual showcase of his popular hits such as “Give It to Me Baby,” “Mary Jane,” and “Super Freak.”

Stokley stars as Rick James on the tour which kicks off in Houston, in mid March. The tour runs until the end of June where it ends in Atlanta. See the full set of announced dates below.
