Oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe landed a role in the new Showtime series, The Big C as a student who acts like she knows it all. Sidibe had the leading role in the movie: Precious, which was based on the novel Push by Sapphire.

The Big C is a half–hour comedy series created and written by Darlene Hunt. Sidibe took on a role in the pilot episode, which was directed and produced by Bill Condon, (who directed Dream girl’s) but later signed on for a continuing role on the show.

The sarcastic comedy series features Laura Linney (Cathy) among other actors like Olive Platt who will play Cathy’s husband. The series is based on Cathy’s role as a Connecticut suburban house wife and mother who is reclaiming her life after being diagnosed with cancer. Sidibe plays a student in Cathy’s class.

The show will shoot 13 episodes in May and will premiere sometime this summer.
