In recent years Hot 97’s Summer Jam has become as much about the featured acts as the special guest appearances. Summer Jam XX was no different. With artists representing just about every coast and various crews/labels of the industry, there were sure to be lots of surprise cameos. They didn’t disappoint either. While some acts were expected, others were actual surprises, and one in particular really left people scratching their heads. Here’s a look at some images of the special guest appearances of the night.

Joell Ortiz was the first special guest of the night, joining Joe Budden so half of Slaughterhouse could open the show.  With Summer Jam 2013 starting on time, many people missed the performance as Metlife Stadium was still half-empty by the Ortiz joined Budden.

As the stadium continued to fill up, Miguel rocked the stage with one of the best performances of the night.  Part of that included bring out Roc Nation representative J Cole for a performance of his hit single, “Power Trip.”

Miguel wasn’t done there though, he followed it up with a performance of his duet “Beautiful” accompanied by the lovely, Mariah Carey.

The show didn’t really hit full gear until MMG’s Meek Mill made his appearance as part of Wale’s set.  While Wale appeared to be visibly tired, Meek was a ball of energy, running through hits like, “I’ma Boss,” “House Party” and his new single “Levels.”  Mill might as well have been on the bill because he did as many tracks as Wale and he appeared a bit later in the show as well alongside Fabolous to perform “You Don’t Know.”

Chris Brown took over the stage next.  He was light on his special guest appearances, opting instead to focus on promoting his upcoming album, X.  He did however bring out Sean Kingston to perform Sean’s new single, “Beat It,” which features Chris. Chris also introduced Fabolous for a performance of “Ready,” but since Fabolous was a headliner,  we won’t focus on those images here.

Fabolous remained onstage following Brown’s introduction and he was sure to rep for Brooklyn, while also making a decision to bring out as many special guests as allotted.  Along with the aforementioned Meek Mill, Fabolous was joined onstage by Pusha T, fresh off their “Life Is So Exciting Tour.”  They performed their single off the same name.

After discussion of Queens, Fab decided it was only right to bring out the Queen Bee, introducing Lil’ Kim onto the stage.  We hear Foxy Brown was also supposed to be there, but she arrived too late.  Kim held it down though…

Wu Tang Clan opted not to bring out any special guests at all.  Slightly disappointing, only because Method Man ended their set with a performance of “Da Rockwilder”… without Redman.  Weird choice to end their set if he wasn’t going to be there.

Nonetheless, the surprises continued once 2 Chainz sauntered onto the stage.  Nicki Minaj joined him onstage for the two to perform “Luv Dem Strippers” and “Beez In Da Trap.”

A$AP Rocky was next on stage and he had one of the biggest surprises of the night with a performance from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.  Shouldn’t be too much of a surprise though, as A$AP has mentioned the crew multiple times in his interviews and in his lyrics.

The A$AP Mob was also in the building, of course, but the surprises weren’t done for Rocky, as he bought out Trinidad James to perform the “Work” Remix.

A$AP ended his set with a performance of “F*cking Problem.”  2 Chainz returned to the stage to join him, as did Kendrick Lamar to begin his set.  Both were headliners, so again those pics will be found on another post.

Kendrick Lamar limited his set to the TDE family, but he rocked the entire performance with the A$AP Mob on stage as well, along with Trinidad James. There were truly too many people on stage for most of the set.  Below him and jay Rock get close for their performance of “Money Trees” and then everyone joins in for a performance of “m.A.A.d city.”

The most surprising guest of the night was by far Papoose.  Audience members were puzzled when he hit the stage, not because he was there, but because no one introduced him the way all the other special guests had been introduced, he just appeared on stage.  Turns out he was a guest of Kendrick Lamar, but Kendrick didn’t bother to take credit for it.  So much so that Papoose ended up on stage a couple minutes after Kendrick, the TDE crew and the A$AP Mob had vacated it.  Papoose took it all in stride performing his single, “Get At Me.”  He even took a minute to get the crowd’s help in a chant of “Free Remy.”

French Montana would end things on this night.  He began the night with intentions of shutting down the show with special guest performances.  It didn’t quite go as planned, I think because it appeared that his show was cut short, but with his fifteen minutes he provided Chinx (“I’m A Coke Boy”), Ace Hood & DJ Khaled (“Bugatti”) and Rick Ross with Lil’ Wayne on “Pop That.” As soon as Wayne’s verse ended… so did the show.
