Day one at Essence Festival 2013 was quite the learning experience, especially for an Essence novice like myself.  The event turned out to be a lesson in time management and prioritizing.  Amidst the learning I got the opportunity to sit in for the Chrisette Michele Superlounge show at essence festival, presented by Covergirl and curated by Janelle Monaé.  For the hour plus while Chrisette abused the stage, calm prevailed over everything as amazing happened.  Chrisette Michele is no rookie in the music industry and if there’s one thing the New York native knows how to do, its put on a show especially at this years essence festival.

Janelle Monaé was on hand to introduce the songbird to a jam packed room for Chrisette fans.  While Jill Scott was preparing to perform for an hour on the mainstage, Chrisette Michele was doing her thing at essence festival.

Setting things off with a performance of “I’ma Be Okay,” Chrisette went on to perform songs from all four of her albums, including her latest release, Better.  Audience favorites included, “Charades,” “Rich Hipster,” “If I Had My Way,” “Blame It On Me,” and “Golden.”
