David Makes Man‘ Airing On OWN This August

Starting on August 14, 2019, a new series titled ‘David Makes Man‘ is coming to OWN. The show will start at 10 PM ET/PT, following the critically acclaimed drama ‘Queen Sugar‘. There has already been key art, as well as a trailer released. ‘David Makes Man‘ will focus on a 14-year-old boy who is a prodigy from the projects. He is haunted by the death of his closest friend while relying on his mother to get them out of poverty. He must choose between the streets that raised him or a higher education that can provide a way out.

The series is set in South Florida and inspired by events in executive producer ‘s life. This allowed him to explore his childhood and the power of imagination to survive. This will be McCraney’s first television project as he works alongside Dee Harris-Lawerence who is showrunner Mike Kelley and Melissa Loy, under their Page Fright production banner, Michael B. Jordan via his Outlier Society Productions and Oprah Winfrey are also executive producers.

The series stars Akili McDowell (“The Astronaut Wives Club”) as David and Alana Arenas (“Hall of Passes”) as David’s hardworking mother Gloria. Isaiah Johnson (“Hamilton”) plays Sky, Travis Coles (“Liza on Demand”) will play Mx. Elijah, Phylicia Rashad (“Creed II”) plays Dr. Woods-Trap, and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre (“Celebrity Ghost Stories”) plays Seren.

We can also expect to see David; Cayden K. Williams (“Girls Trip”) as Jonathan “JG” Greg, David’s rough-and-tumble younger brother, Ade Chike Torbert (“East Los High”) as Raynan, and Jordan Bolger (“Peaky Blinders”) as Shinobi.

The series also features Tony winner and Emmy/Golden Globe nominee Ruben Santiago-Hudson (“The Quad,” “Billions”), Elvis Nolasco (“American Crime”), Gillian Williams (“The Girlfriend Experience”), Juanita Jennings (“Star”), Liza Colón-Zayas (“Proven Innocent”), Lindsey Blackwell (“Step Sisters”), Lela Rochon (“Training Day”) and Nick Creegan, all with recurring roles.
