Got your hands on one of the latest iPhones? Congrats! You’re holding some of the most cutting-edge mobile computing technology in the palm of your hand. That’s pretty cool.
Alongside all the obvious good stuff it can do — like take amazing pictures, wireless charging, etc — there are some hidden features you may not know about. After you’ve gotten yourself some cute iPhone 12 Pro Max cases (because you’d be mad not to protect this tech), you can start experimenting with our tips below!
1. ProRAW Camera Setting
When you next want to snap some pics, turn on the raw camera setting. Go into your camera settings and into Formats and enable Apple ProRAW in Photo Capture.
This means you can adjust your images without losing any quality. You know in the old days how turning up the brightness would negatively impact the picture quality? Those days are gone!
2. MagSafe Charging
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is, of course, compatible with wireless charging. But have you tried the new MagSafe chargers?
These chargers attach to the back of the phone with a magnet, so you can just click and charge. (Tip — if you get one of these, make sure you get a MagSafe phone case, as not all are compatible.)
3. Back Tap
This feature enables you to double tap on the back of the phone and link it to a specific command, like take a screenshot, open Spotify, etc! It’s super nifty and is like having your favorite app or shortcut on speed dial.
To do this, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Touch. There you’ll find the Back Tap option. You can also add a command to Triple Tap!
4. Camera and Microphone Use Icons
This is a cool feature for those interested in privacy and security. In the past, apps have been known to access our phones’ cameras and microphones without our knowledge — but not any more.
Whenever your camera is in use, there will be a green dot on the top right-hand side of your screen. If that dot appears when you don’t expressly have the camera open and in use, you’ll know something fishy is going on.
When it’s the microphone being used, it’ll be an orange dot.
If apps are accessing these without your permission, get rid of them!
5. Alternative Face ID Settings
Fed up with typing in your passcode whenever your kids want to use your phone, as Face ID obviously won’t allow them access? You can now get your phone to recognize their face as well as your own to unlock it.
You can also use this for your partner, best friend, or if your phone struggles to identify you when you have a beard vs. when you don’t…
6. Change Your Default Browser
Not a fan of Safari? No problem. You can change your default browser to your favorite one, i.e. Chrome, in your settings. Just go into Settings, click Chrome, and go to ‘Default Browser’. Easy!
7. Reading Modes
If a webpage is hard to read, Safari has your back. Click the ‘AA’ icon next to the URL you’re on in the browser app to go into reading mode, taking away all the annoying ads and formatting that can make webpages tough to scan.
You can then go even further and hold down the ‘AA’ icon and change the page to dark mode, gray scale, or sepia, depending on what works best for your eyes.
Bottom Line
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is by far the most customizable iPhone ever. If you upgraded to one of these, spend some time checking out all the cool features and truly making it your own!
