How To Balance Your Virtual Office Lifestyle And Mental Health

virtual office lifestyle and your mental health

With Covid-19, the world has changed significantly, and we are being forced to stay indoors for longer than ever, and almost forget vacations.

Work continues, but in a new way – the work-from-home norm is the new normal. This new normal has put considerable stress on people’s minds and is becoming a stressor even for those who have prepared themselves mentally for the challenge. Many are even turning to medical cannabis to improve their happiness while constrained to their homes. The key to successfully handling this problem is through maintaining a proper work-life balance and practicing certain healthy lifestyle habits.

The pandemic has had a profound impact on the mental health of people all over. People are getting so depressed that they want to forget about work and hit the bed sometimes! Some organizations understand these problems. These organizations keep their employees well connected with virtual meetings, regular messaging, etc., to ensure their mental well-being. However, there are some more things that you need to practice to ensure that you balance your virtual office lifestyle and your mental health well.

  • The first thing that you need to do is to remain calm when you feel alone and lonely. The stress that you are feeling is affecting most others as well. You need to be social with your team members. It does not mean that you constantly need to keep in touch as that may hamper the work but rather schedule one-to-one meetings to check on the progress. You can also keep connecting on instant messengers to stay connected.

  • Disconnecting from work and social media is also essential. Overworking is a reason why people feel stressed about work. You should be careful not to spend too much screen time. Also, staying away from fake news is essential.

  • A reason for increasing stress is the lack of physical activity. People are glued to their chairs for long hours and seldom get time for exercising. When in the office, people would walk around during breaks, walk to conference rooms, and meetings. At home, this is a bare minimum. It is essential to practice some Yoga every day or go for a walk as this helps improve mood and physical health.

  • It is prudent to separate your working space from the other parts of your home. Setting up a desk in the corner of a room is advisable as it helps you stay away from working from the bed. The setup is excellent because the whole house is not linked to your work, and you can log off from work once you are finished for the day.

  • At the office, there is a routine that you follow -you arrive at a particular time, have coffee at certain times, have lunch, and so on. But at home, maintaining this is tough. So developing a routine and sticking to it can help in keeping your mind calmer and focused.

Managing your calm and your home office is not very tough if you can stick to these few basics. Just make sure to remember these pointers and have faith that this too shall pass!
