R&B singer Jaheim has been the topic of many rumors and much concern in recent years.  The singer notably made a career of out being an incredibly talented soulful crooner, after a life that included some prison time because of bad decisions.  In recent years, he has sometimes looked like he was dealing with some personal issues, with many speculating drug use was the cause.  Now comes the news that singer Jaheim arrested in his home state of New Jersey, in of Somerset County on animal cruelty charges.

The arrest happened on Monday morning, when police were called about “puppy in distress”.  According to multiple reports and authorities, six dogs were found in the driveway of Jaheim’s Hillsborough home.  One of those dogs would have to be euthanized because it was in such bad condition.  The dogs were found in crates with their own feces and water.  The singer, whose full name is Jaheim Hoagland was arrested even before police entered the home.  Inside they found another 9 dogs in similar conditions.  Those dogs also seemed to have no access to food and water.

A majority of the dogs were mixed breed pit bull terriers (12). Another two were American Staffordshire terriers and one was a mixed breed boxer.  The 14 surviving dogs were taken to a kennel in Hillsborough.

Just a couple weeks ago fans were hoping that Jaheim had either turned a corner or had put the rough times behind him.  The 44 year-old singer appeared on a new song with rapper AZ, and appeared in a music video looking and sounding like his old self.  The song was produced by his old producer, Kay Gee, so it was a sign that maybe the pair were coming back together to bring that old thang back.

Now with Jaheim arrested, he is facing third degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal charges.

According to the law that I was able to find in New Jersey, Jaheim would be subject to potential ramifications that can lead to either a substantial fine of prison time. The law says that for every such offense a person shall be fined not less than $250 nor more than $1,000, or be imprisoned for a term of not more than six months, or both, in the discretion of the court.

One can assume that there will be 15 counts since there were 15 dogs.
