This December, the comedy event we weren’t expecting, but absolutely needed, is coming to theaters.  The American Fiction movie stars Jeffrey Wright, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown and a handful of other stars.  A funny, but startlingly serious take at the struggle of some Black creatives, the film looks at how far is too far on the path to success.

While the film doesn’t hit theaters until December, viewers can get an early screening at the 2023 Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City.  The film opens the festival on November 1st.

American Fiction is based on the novel ‘Erasure’ by Percival Everett.  The movie has a runtime of 117 minutes.

American Fiction movie synopsis:

AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson’s hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
