When Brooklyn, New York is mentioned you characteristically think one of three things — the Nets, Brooklyn style pizza, or The Notorious B.I.G. And to honor the late great hip-hop artist, the city of Brooklyn recently erected a massive, breathtaking statue of the one we called Biggie Smalls.

At the northeast corner of Washington Street and Prospect Street (near the Brooklyn Bridge), a fresh nine foot art sculpture dubbed “Sky’s the Limit in the County of Kings” now stands in honor of The Notorious B.I.G. The statue is downright astounding, featuring Biggie in a Coogi sweater donning a crown. Sherwin Banfield, a NYC artist, designed the monument and it was comprised to commemorate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, which is in 2023.

Via Instagram, TheNotoriousBIG page posted: “A Statue was erected to honor Christopher Wallace at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. The interactive installation is a nine-foot structure made of stainless steel and bronze. ‘Sky’s the Limit in the County of Kings’ will remain on display through the spring of 2023.”

The Biggie Smalls statue was fashioned in collaboration with The Downtown Brooklyn + Dumbo Art Fund and the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The interactive (an audio system is built in and powered by a solar energy) and inexhaustible statue is reticently curated with Stainless Steel, Bronze, Resin, Wood, and Winterstone. And to make sure you don’t miss out, an exclusive DJ mix is played featuring The Notorious B.I.G.‘s hits.

Biggie Smalls was assassinated on March 9, 1997 in Los Angeles, CA after leaving a party at the Petersen Automotive Museum. May his legacy live on forever and ever—thanks Big Poppa.
