Wyclef Jean My Girl Single Marks His Return To Music

Rapper, activist and former Haitian presidential candidate, Wyclef Jean is making his comeback to music in 2016 after years of a hiatus. The failed presidential candidacy was a hit for the rapper but the drama with “Yéle Haiti,” known legally as the Wyclef Jean Foundation, was a real reason to take a step back from it all.  Still, it’s great to see the rapper make his comeback.  The return to music is official with the release of the new Wyclef Jean My Girl single.
The new single leads off Wyclef’s new upcoming  album, Carnival III. The album will be the third installment of his classic Carnival series, following 1997’s  The Carnival and  2007’s Carnival Vol II: Memoirs of an Immigrant.

When you think of Wyclef Jean, you should think, “game changer.”  You get nostalgic memories of The Fugees “Killing You Softly,” the Destiny’s Child “No No No Remix” and calling “911” with Mary J. Blige. Despite his hiatus, Wyclef  was always working on his first love of music.  He co-wrote and co-produced Shakira’s break out single, “Hips Don’t Lie,” and in 2014 along with Carlos Santana, Avicii and Brazilian singer Alexandre Pire he was featured on the FIFA World Cup single “Dar Um Jeito” (“We Will Find A Way”).

The Carnival III
will be Wyclef’s first album since 2009’s From the Hut, to the Projects, to the Mansion, his seventh album. Stepping back into the spotlight, the new single, My Girl features newcomer Sasha Mari.

Faithful Wyclef fans might be slightly disappointed with his new single. There is no empowering message, no fight for social cause, this is more of a feel good party song. Once you come to terms with that and open your mind, have a drink and get in that party zone you can welcome his new single with open arms.

Wyclef is giving us a taste of the coming Summer.  Flirtatious lyrics, and the infectious beat transcends you to another place, slow winding at a Summer BBQ enjoying life.  Wyclef’s new single appeals to the ladies. The beat along with the soothing smooth flow of Sasha Mari is a nice combination.

Ladies and gentleman, “it’s the return of the carnival man!”
