Week of 12/14/10 – 12/22/10 Week in Review:

Last week was crazy! “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was repealed, Michael Vick managed to piss off overly enthusiastic dog owners once again, and Bishop Eddie Long’s lawyer continues to rack up on overtime pay. Check out all the action below in the Week in Review:

DON’T ASK DON’T TELL REPEALED

Last week, the democratically controlled congress repealed the military’s controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which allowed gays and lesbians to serve in the Armed Services only if they remained in the closet. Since its inception, many have been discharged from military service, regardless of rank and ability. Now that the legislation is passed, it is to be signed by President Obama.

LIL’ KIM EXPLAINS BEEF WITH NICKI MINAJ

In this week’s Week in Review, The original Black Barbie, Lil’ Kim, spoke with New York Hot 97 radio host Angie Martinez about why she’s waging a one-woman war against Nicki Minaj. As it turns out, there might actually be some valid reasons for the beef. According to the “Queen Bee,” Nicki has been prone to talk reckless, while her manager Diddy is just tagging along for the ride, leaving Kim out in the dust. I’m not taking sides, and I love both artists, but right now, I think I’m going to bump a Hardcore track or two.

MICHAEL VICK WANTS A CUDDLY PUP

Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick probably made PETA’s president have a hissy fit when the football star said in an interview that he’d like another dog some day. The comment’s even landed Vick on Anderson Cooper’s “RidicuList” for stupid quotes of the day. Apparently, a man can serve his time behind prison, do regular community service, and have a comeback season for the record books and still not deserve a second chance. Granted, Vick’s crimes were horrendous and unacceptable, but I wonder where all that anger and vitriol went for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger? Oh wait! He was accused of sexual assualt while his hired goons (off-duty police officers) supposedly helped in the alleged crime’s cover-up, not killing dogs. My mistake.  Either way, all the hubbub is really a mute point. Vick will be free to be a dog owner once his probation ends in 2012.

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER EDDIE LONG SCANDAL

Things just keep going from bad to worse for New Birth church leader Bishop Eddie Long. Of course, there are the sexual coercion lawsuits pending from four former male church members, as well as a lawsuit filed against the Bishop and his church for a land deal gone wrong. Now comes news that the good bishop is being investigated for alleged misconduct in a mortgage refinance scheme. According to the investigation, Long is linked to Matrix Capital – a company that promised to help homeowners refinance their homes and avoid foreclosure for a $1,500 fee. However, most ended up losing their homes and/or in bankruptcy. Makes you wonder how much of the collection plate is going to the good bishop’s defense fund…
