In the 1980s, in Southwest Detroit, the birth of what dying streets bricked up was about to be unleased. Two brothers decided to put their 50 cents into the game. The outcome would bring something the country wasn’t ready for. Two halves formed a whole and it brought BMF, aka Black Mafia Family. Now, thanks to 50 Cent and his production team, their story is coming to Starz in the BMF series.

With the blueprint, life story and the back story to one of the most influential black crime families to read and know, the BMF series gets into the story of the dynamic brother duo of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory. The connections in the streets and the business mindset formed an alliance, and bond within the two. Big Meeh with the charismatic, Gemini/Cancer cusp orchestration; and Southwest T’s Capricorn resourcefulness business focus. Those powers combined would put the brothers on course that would put them in icon genius level.

With family and loyalty being the main bricks built on the foundation of this family’s kingdom. Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., the son of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, and Da’Vinchi (‘All American‘, ‘grown-ish’) are set to star in Starz’s drama series Black Mafia Family. Demetrius Flenory Jr., will make his acting debut starring as his father and Da’Vinchi will be in the role of Demetrius’ brother Southwest T.

Russell Hornsby, Steve Harris, Wood Harris, Snoop Dogg, LaLa Anthony and Kash Doll are all also set to appear in the series.

News first broke that Starz picked up the BMF series in spring 2020. 50 Cent has been working on the crime drama for about two years now. Then in July of 2020, he enlisted music sensation Raphael Saadiq to work on the show’s music play list.

The series will take the viewers on a ride through the rise and fall of a family dynamic destined dynasty During the days and time of the all too familiar Reaganomics in the ’80s, and as an ‘80s baby I can relate to some of the things during that time.

The BMF series is being filmed in Atlanta, Georgia and in the stomping ground where is started, in the home plate of Detroit, Michigan. Tasha Smith, who has starred in ATL and Why Did I Get Married?, among others, is directing the first episode and a few others.  She previously directed, When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story.

The series premieres on September 26th.
