India Arie gets slammed after the recent comment that she made after Megan Thee Stallion and Janelle Monae performances at the annual Essence Festival.
Just right after the fireworks, India Arie exploded herself on social media. It seems as though the long time artist didn’t find the performances from these ladies amusing or tasteful. The artist in fact believe that black women are portraying their body on a level that does not amplify themselves in a light of “wholesomeness” at all.
India Arie’s Comment About Megan Thee Stallion and Janelle Monae’s Performance
India Arie, states that she has been in this industry for 25 years and has not once felt the need to portray herself in such light.
But many fans aren’t necessarily caring about what India Arie has to say when it comes to the way women should perform on stage.
In fact, many people had a lot of distasteful things to say about the Neo-Soul artist. Which has a lot of people still not understanding why she had to comment or speak on the performances of these ladies.
There have been some people who agree with what India has stated and are simply going to stand by her until the end.
It still didn’t stop India for clearing things up a little bit more after realizing she was trending for her recent comment. But still, she didn’t regret a thing.
India Arie IG Story Posts
She continues with her story, trying to explain the reason on why it bothered her and many others suggesting that this is something that isn’t going to end well but expresses the love that she shares with both artists.
It didn’t make a difference in the end because social media still had to swoop in and state their own opinions towards the comments that she has expressed.
I guess you can say everyone is using their freedom of speech.

Here is What Twitter Had to Say
I tire of folk complaining about sex in music. Sex has always been in music specifically Black music since the Juke Joint. Just more visual avenues. India Arie is being disingenuous.

I stand with India Arie! The wheat and tares, the sheep and goats are being separated in the Black community and I'm 100% for it!

Unfortunately some Black women see raunchy, trashy and slutty as the symbol of empowerment. Well some of us don't and will call you out on your… https://t.co/RhBa5C81No
Essence Fest knew exactly the kinda performances they would be getting, when they asked Megan and Janelle to perform.

They knew Meg’s lyrics and how she throws that ass. They knew based on Janelle’s recent album rollout, that she may bring out a titty. India Arie can gtfoh
India Arie is right. Black female singers and rappers are hypersexualized as hell. Sexualisation always existed but you see it was tasteful even when it was raunchy it wasn't too much. Now it's borderline pornography.

But also black people love this themselves.

I co-sign India Arie’s message. That lackluster behavior is NOT Black excellence and it needs to be shunned. Zero tolerance for low hanging fruit nonsense. Argue with your ‘City Gworl’ mama. Not me… pic.twitter.com/rGfLTfMJMP

India Arie would’ve never came for Prince because of the “butt out” jeans he wore. She would’ve never attacked Michael for crotch grabbing. This I know.

India Arie once proudly proclaimed that she is not her hair.. so she should also understand that Megan and Janelle are not their ass. If they decide to embrace their bodies and have fun, there's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't completely define them as artists or women.

I def listened to the music and that is exactly why I’m not shocked by India Arie’s statement on Janelle and Meg. Lol even “Video” gives a certain energy when you go back to it.

Did india arie reach out and check on Meg after she was shot…or during the trial against the leprechaun…since she loves her….

Why are so many black women attacking India Arie for pointing out that black women have allowed the music industry and television to turn them into ho hoochie mama caricatures? On your next interview, they may ask do you Twerk.

Did India.Arie say anything about her sister in soul Jill Scott? She also had some sexually laced bits in her Essence Fest set. pic.twitter.com/83oDo3G6Mt
