Keke Palmer has a lot to say about the entertainment industry following Taraji P. Henson’s emotional stance on pay inequality. In case you missed it, the legendary actress became teary-eyed during a press run for The Color Purple as she revealed her frustration with being underpaid for her work. During the viral interview for Sirius XM, she even expressed possibly quitting acting as a whole.

To that sentiment, Keke shared her thoughts in a lengthy now-deleted X, formerly known as Twitter, post.

“The entertainment industry is just like any other industry. We run businesses to keep our brands afloat, us being the brand/business. And it’s that team of company members that decrease any assumed large lump sum. This includes monthly expenses just like everyone else. In the words of biggie ‘more money more problems,'” she tweeted.

She continued, pointing out that “no one can really have one job anymore,” as she herself has multiple hustles.

“This is why no one can really have one job anymore! People working outside of the entertainment industry may do Uber eats, Postmates, accountant part time, substitute teacher every other week etc.”

Keke Palmer even highlighted her several gigs, saying that she keeps a job because of what it takes to be successful in America. Naturally, many fans and followers agree being that so many Americans have had the same dilemma for quite some time. After all, working multiple jobs is something that a large percentage of us has to do in order to keep afloat in today’s economy.

“For an entertainment career you may be like me, an actor, influencer, host, singer, speaker etc. I keep a job because I HAVE to haha. We ALL work multiple jobs and we may like some but also because we HAVE to. To be successful and live in America it’s literally this way because of the cash to expense ratio and this is why entrepreneurship is so important but that in itself is expensive! Having one job for anyone is not really an option no matter what industry unless you are like the top top top TOP earner and I mean that’s like Bill Gates and them I suppose. Idk because I can’t relate haha!” she added.

“I am not complaining or comparing but I acknowledge that we all have similar struggles in our industries and it’s because corporations run everything and they aren’t people. ‘America we have a problem’ -@beyonce,” Keke wrote.

Taraji P. Henson originally stated that she’s “tired of working so hard” and that “the math ain’t math-ing” when it comes to her pay.

“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do [and] getting paid a fraction of the cost,” she said during her viral interview. “I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go: ‘You work a lot.’ Well, I have to. The math ain’t math-ing. When you start working a lot, you have a team. Big bills come with what we do. We don’t do this alone. It’s a whole team behind us. They have to get paid.”

She continued, sharing that IRS takes 50% of her paycheck and that her team gets an additional 30% after she seals a movie deal.

“When you hear someone go, ‘Such and such made $10 million,’ that didn’t make it to their account. Off the top, Uncle Sam is getting 50%. Now have $5 million. Your team is getting 30% off what you gross, not after what Uncle Same took. Now do the math, I’m only human. Every time I do something and break another glass ceiling, when it’s time to renegotiate I’m at the bottom again like I never did what I just did and I’m tired…I’m tired. It wears on you.”

Taraji pointed our that if she can’t “fight” for those following in her footsteps then she’d have to question what’s she’s doing with her career.

“What does that mean? What is that telling me? If I can’t fight for them coming up behind me then what the f*ck am I doing?” she frustratingly added.

What do you think about Keke’s thoughts on Taraji’s stance on pay inequality as a Black woman in Hollywood?
