Mo’Nique and Netflix Reportedly Settle Pay Discrimination Lawsuit

Mo'Nique and Netflix

Mo’Nique and Netflix have come to an agreement in their legal case.

The actress-comedienne filed a lawsuit against the popular streaming service after they offered her merely $500,000 for a one-hour comedy special on the platform back in 2017.

While some argued that the compensation was reasonable for the iconic entertainer’s current career status, Mo’Nique stood firm in the fact that she was way too legendary to take the short end of the stick, especially as a Black woman in the industry. As a result, she accused Netflix of racial and gender-bias activity.

In the 39-page documents, Mo’Nique made her point perfectly clear, stating the amount of frustration that she held following the insulting talent fee.

Obtained from NBC News (2019):

Despite Mo’Nique’s extensive résumé and documented history of comedic success, when Netflix presented her with an offer of employment for an exclusive stand-up comedy special, Netflix made a lowball offer that was only a fraction of what Netflix paid other (non-Black female) comedians – on behalf of her attorneys at the deRubertis Law Firm, APC and Schimmel & Parks, APLC.

Though Netflix previously disputed the claims and felt their offer was fair, Chris Rock, Amy Shumer, and Dave Chapelle’s million-dollar deals proved otherwise.

Because of that, Mo’Nique saw the lawsuit to the end, and ultimately, as recently reported, it has now been settled and mutually dismissed.

“The matter has been amicably resolved,” The Hollywood Reporter relayed from Mo’Nique’s representative, Michael Parks.

In-depth details were not disclosed, but it’s good to know that both parties have come to a resolution in the unfortunate situation.
