In a new series titled Buying Back the Block, comedian and actor Mike Epps and his spouse Kyra Epps attempt to restore the neighborhood where he grew up.

Epps is going back to his suburban Indianapolis area and intends to assist in reestablishing his former community in order to support those who were driven away.

In a series featurette that he posted to Instagram, Epps states: “Indianapolis is home for me and there’s nothing in the world like it. That’s why I’m buying back my block.

“I bought my whole childhood block back,” the “Next Friday” star disclosed, furthering that it consists of “six homes that we actually got evicted from.”

We even find out that the comic’s grandma owned one of these houses as the teaser progresses.

Mike and Kyra Epps are already residents of the neighborhood’s remodeled firehouse, and they hope to carry on their work by renovating the site to foster a feeling of community again.

“Back in the day, I grew up in the ’70s. It was about family and friends. It was about community. The memories are unforgettable,” the “All About the Benjamins” actor recollects.

“After all the big movies, television, running around doing stand-up all over the world, Indy was calling.”

Mike Epps acknowledges that times have changed and that houses are now dilapidated, but he also discloses, “Me and my wife Kyra, we’re on a mission to renovate these houses one at a time and to make sure people can afford them.”

Regarding their methods, Kyra stated, “I’m very practical and realistic, and Mike sometimes has this whimsical way of thinking, so we kind of bring it together and it works.”

Watch Buying Back the Block when it debuts on HGTV on November 8.
