The Jennifer Hudson Show is reportedly starting production again this week and will hit television screens on Monday, September 18.   Although the season will start without writers, the talk program will restart WGA writers once a new contract is set in stone. The talk show is covered by the WGA, so The Jennifer Hudson Show return amid writer’s strike is certainly rubbing some the wrong way.

The Jennifer Hudson Show intends to launch its season without writers, but once a new contract is formed, WGA writers will return. Hudson and other members of SAG-AFTRA are allowed and encouraged to participate on these series since discussion shows are covered by a separate contract than strike productions (known as the “Network Television Code”).

The information was released soon after Drew Barrymore revealed on Sunday that her show, The Drew Barrymore Show, would air again for a fourth season despite the strikes. In a post via Instagram post, she expressed, “I own my decision.”

“We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind.”

The Talk, a daytime panel show on CBS, is also planning to return on September 18.

The show’s production was halted in May, shortly after the strikes started. Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Natalie Morales, and Jerry O’Connell serve as hosts. O’Connell has posted multiple pictures from the picket lines on the internet, so it’s uncertain if all the co-hosts will return.

Since July 14, the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) has been on strike, while the WGA (Writers Guild of America) has been on strike since May 2.

During these strikes, SAG-AFTRA members are prohibited from promoting any struck work if they appear on talk shows, and WGA writers are prohibited from writing or promoting any striking work, including work for talk shows like The Talk.
