In a recent turn of events, Unfoonk, the biological brother of Atlanta rapper Young Thug and an artist signed to YSL, has been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison for violating the terms of his probation. Unfoonk, whose real name is Quantavious Grier, faced charges of firearm possession by a convicted felon, among other offenses. The judge’s decision to revoke his probation and impose a lengthy prison sentence has shocked the music community. This incident marks a setback for Unfoonk, who had previously taken a plea deal in the ongoing YSL RICO case.
Background Regarding Unfoonk’s Sentence
In December of last year, Unfoonk accepted a plea deal in the YSL RICO trial, which involved allegations of gang activity and racketeering. As part of the deal, he received credit for two years served and was placed on probation for ten years. The conditions of his probation were strict, including a prohibition on possessing firearms and a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Unfoonk’s probation also mandated that he complete 750 hours of community service and refrain from contacting other defendants in the case, including his brother Young Thug.

Unfoonk Violation of Probation and Arrest
On May 4, Unfoonk was arrested in Atlanta on charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The arrest came just six months after he was placed on probation. According to WSBTV, the arrest occurred while plainclothes officers were monitoring activity on Cleveland Avenue in Southwest Atlanta. The Plainclothes officers observed a group of people gathered around Unfoonk’s vehicle, a Black Mercedes G Wagon parked at a gas station, and suspected possible drug-related activity. When the vehicle was stopped for a window tint violation, officers detected the smell of marijuana and discovered a loaded handgun in plain view inside the car. Unfoonk informed the officers that the gun was clean, implying his knowledge of its presence.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Ural D. Glanville expressed disappointment in Unfoonk’s actions, emphasizing that the artist had failed to fulfill the requirements of his probation.
“All you had to do was complete your probation and do what you were supposed to do,” emphasized Fulton County judge Ural Glanville during Monday’s hearing, as reported by Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Instead, you were out riding around with a gun in your car.” Judge Glanville highlighted the gravity of possessing a firearm while on probation and ultimately decided to revoke the remaining nine and a half years of Unfoonk’s probation, ordering him to serve the sentence in prison.
Unfoonk’s sentencing comes as a blow to the YSL records label, as several members, including Young Thug and Gunna, have been entangled in the ongoing RICO case. The charges against the group include allegations of murder, armed robbery, drug dealing, and illegal firearm possession over the past decade. Gunna had previously accepted a plea deal, while Young Thug was arrested and remains in prison awaiting trial. The case raises questions about the nature of YSL “Young Stoner Life” as a record label and its alleged affiliation with the “Young Slime Life” gang.
