The American professional tennis player Serena Williams has announced her decision to retire from tennis in an essay that she penned for Vogue. Also as seen at the star’s Instagram story, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has made her readers understand that while she still loves tennis, she’s ready to move on to new things.
Williams went on to discuss how difficult it had been for her to reveal her decision to retire.
“I’ve been reluctant to admit that I have to move on from playing tennis. It’s like a taboo topic. It comes up, and I start to cry. I think the only person I’ve really gone there with is my therapist,” Williams said.
Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Her professional career is, without doubt, a motivation for women and every sports lover. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time (behind Margaret Court’s 24). Williams was ranked singles world No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks. The tennis player finished as the year-end No. 1 five good times.
She is reportedly the highest-earning female athlete of all time, ranked 31st on Forbes’ list of top earnings among all pros in 2022 with $45.3 million.
