Everything about Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes made her just right for the legendary TLC. From the way her charismatic flow rode every beat effortlessly… even down to her trend-setting style, loving the Philadelphia-born rapper wasn’t hard to do.

It’s been seventeen years since we tragically lost our angel, but her memory continues to live on–through her family, friends, fans, and the record-breaking bops that she and fellow members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas made timelessly.

Deemed three of the “greatest women in music,” TLC was the leading all-female trio of the 1990s. Their debut album, Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip, premiered in February of 1992, and by 1996, the LP was certified quadruple-platinum. They then followed up with two more albums, CrazySexyCool (1994) and FanMail (1999), which further stamped their undeniable mark in the industry. 3D, the R&B triad’s fourth project, released nearly seven months after Left Eye’s death.

Known for songs like “Creep,” “Waterfall,” and “No Scrubs,” the ladies won multiple awards–including Grammys, VMAs, and even Soul Train trophies. TLC was named the best-selling American girl group and collectively became a force to be reckoned with on the music front.

Even through Left Eye’s short stint as a solo artist, with the unveiling of her own full-length work, Supernova, and unforgettable collaborations, one could never dismiss the talent that she embodied.

Sadly, on April 25th, 2002, at the young age of 30, Left Eye was killed in a car crash during her visit to Honduras.

A creative genius and lyrical visionary who’ll forever be irreplaceable, T-Boz and Chilli have done their very best to carry on L.E.’s legacy.

The duo has stayed persistent in traveling the world and keeping the TLC sound alive.
