It’s official- Juneteenth is a Federal Holiday! While the officials work out the details, we’re celebrating by giving you 5 Black-owned brands to help kick-off your summer and support the cause! With everything ranging from homegoods to beauty and everything in between, we’ve got the whole family covered with our list. Here are some of our favorite Black-owned businesses for you to support this (and every) Juneteenth:

1.  Simply Naked Candle Co.
Born from a Nurse’s desire to share her favorite R&R routine, Simply Naked Candle Co. (SNCC for short) pairs luscious flavors with memorable names to stand out from the pack. Unlike some big-name companies, SNCC’s candles are all natural- using only clean ingredients such as 100% soy wax, coconut, and beeswax. Each candle is hand crafted and the scent is always pleasant, never overpowering.

Simple Naked Candle Co is also known for its collection with renowned R&B singer, Sammie. The collection includes six scents ranging from “Pure Honey” to “Dream About Me”, each developed in collaboration with the artist.

The Atlanta based brand offers shipping world-wide, but be sure to stop by their shop if you’re in the ATL! SNCC also offers in-person candle making experiences. Classes are available for parties, events- and even date nights.

With restrictions lifting across the country, the owners hope to franchise and open shops nationwide. In the meantime, they have big plans including a bar-lounge opening soon in Atlanta.

2. LAMIK Beauty

Love And Makeup In Kindness (LAMIK) Beauty is a vegan-friendly, natural makeup line designed for women of color.

The beauty brand offers everything you’ll need for the perfect look, with products ranging from gorgeous lip colors to high quality brushes. If the name LAMIK sounds familiar, you may have heard of their Celebrity Brow Kit which has been featured in articles for Allure, Essence, and even CNBC!

LAMIK founder Kim Roxie started the brand in Houston after seeing the toxic chemicals found in popular makeup brands. She decided to design clean make-up products that offered women a safer, affordable option that complemented their skin tone. In 2004, the brand was born as a local make-up shop in Houston. After years of selling her product locally, and losing her Mom to breast cancer, LAMIK 2.0 was launched in 2020 with a focus on e-commerce. They debuted with their best-selling brow kit and soon expanded to the full line they have today!

3. Bricks & Wood

Next up is South Central’s Bricks & Wood! This apparel company can be found in multiple streetwear shops around the world, bringing LA style to citizens everywhere. Their clean aesthetic, paired with unisex designs, offers something for everyone!

The brand recently debuted their newest collection in collaboration with the classic apparel company, New Balance. Fans everywhere raved as they tried to get their hands on B&W’s “Forest Green” 57/40s. The sneaker quickly sold out, but other items from the collection are still available on their site.

Bricks & Wood is dedicated to telling the stories of South Central’s residents. But it’s not your everyday clothing line! B&W prides itself on creating high quality garments that will not only last, but also represent the spirit of their time. They’re determined to give small impoverished communities a platform to share their creativity!

4. Yatir Clothing

While B&W offers some of the best in streetwear, fellow LA native Joi Lanell aka “Madam Yatir” brings us the perfect blend of streetwear and glam!

Yatir clothing is a plus-sized clothing brand started in 2016. Using the apparel, Madam Yatir hopes to make each of her customers feel beautiful and satisfied with every purchase. With uplifting and witty phrases, Yatir clothing elevates your everyday wardrobe with the highest quality materials!

Of course you’re wondering, ‘What does ‘Yatir’ mean’? According to the Madam herself, Yatir is Hebrew for most successful or the highest point of success. This stirring phrase serves as Lanell’s inspiration and goal for the e-commerce brand. For Madam Yatir, success isn’t about just money- it’s about the way her customers feel.

You can find fashionable basics, empowering office gear, and even a blog on the Yatir Clothing site! Looking for wholesale opportunities? Madam Yatir offers that too!

5. Symphony Chips

We’re rounding out the list with a snack! Potato chips are easily a fan favorite, but this brand is a game changer.

Symphony is a family owned and operated business specializing in gourmet chips. They began as a spice company, selling Las Vegas chef Andre’ Anderson’s unique blend of herbs and spices. Unfortunately the spices weren’t a hit, so the team decided to offer in-store tastings using raw vegetables and of course- potato chips. Their chips quickly grew in popularity as shoppers fell in love with Anderson’s (the family patriarch) spices on delicious homemade chips. The rest is history!

Symphony Chips has been featured in the Atlanta Black Star, Good Morning America, and a variety of other outlets. People can’t help but fall in love with the Anderson family and their flavorful chips! They’ve since expanded to three flavors: original, smoked, and balsamic. Each one has a distinct flavor and all are available for purchase online!

Using all-natural ingredients and their family recipe, these chips are also vegan-friendly, gluten-free, and peanut allergy safe! Did we mention there’s also no MSG? This is the perfect alternative to your big-name brands!

Give the chips a try, or even invest in wholesale orders by checking out their website!
