This writer believes Nicki Minaj is truly a phenomenon. As a result of her previous mixtape releases including Playtime Is Over and Beam Me Up Scottie, a group of loyal followers emerged. She affectionately refers to them as her “Barbz and Kenbarbz”. To reciprocate the love to her adoring fans, Nicki Minaj performed live at the HOT 97 Thanksgiving Thank You Concert. Fans had the opportunity to see her perform many songs from her debut album, Pink Friday for the first time. Her current hit single “Right Through Me” had the Hammerstein Ballroom crowd mesmerized. On the unreleased song “Did It On Em”, Minaj boastfully sends warning to any emcee that wants to rival her. Surprise guest appearances were made by Busta Rhymes, Drake, Keyshia Cole, Kanye West and Rihanna.
Minaj’s debut album, Pink Friday is predicted to possibly reach total sales of 300,000 to 500,000 copies by the end of its first week. This comes as no surprise, as her album was #3 on the Apple itunes charts on its day of release. If you missed her performance on Thanksgiving Day, you can still catch her next live show at the Paradise Theater on Christmas Day.
