At Tuesday (May 9) night’s Janet Jackson concert in Madison Square Garden, Busta Rhymes shocked the audience by revealing that the legendary pop singer nearly caused him to crash his car.

Busta recalled listening to Janet Jackson’s interview with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 while traveling on New York’s Belt Parkway 25 years ago while “going from Long Island to Manhattan, promoting the ‘Velvet Rope’ album.” Martinez questioned Jackson about a rapper she’d like to collaborate with.

“She said, ‘Busta Rhymes!’ I almost crashed my f**king car!” the “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” rapper stated.

In 1998, Busta and Jackson collaborated on his smash single “What’s It Gonna Be?”

On the second evening of her “Together Again” tour at MSG, the singer invited Busta onstage, and the pair sang “What’s It Gonna Be” live for the very first time.

The Flipmode Squad boss even showed up at the Garden with presents. “Queen, royal, empress Janet Jackson… Please understand, I know she’s on schedule for the show, I don’t want to interrupt the programming too much, but I brought some gifts for you, queen,” he said to Jackson and the audience on stage.

“It definitely seemed like he was about to cry. [He was] very emotional. He definitely got choked up for a second,” one show attendee expressed.

Busta gave Jackson a cake and flowers while announcing to the crowd that she will turn 57 next week. The iconic songstress was “genuinely surprised, and a tad embarrassed about the praise… in her sweet Janet way,” accordant to sources.

Angela Bassett, Maxwell, Bethann Hardison, Ciara, jeweler Jennifer Fisher, and Ralph Carter (Jackson’s former “Good Times” co-star) were among the prominent and stylish guests that attended the event.

Alicia Silverstone, Sherri Shepherd, and clothes designer Christian Siriano, who designed some of Jackson’s tour outfits, were also seen at the show on Tuesday night.
