After receiving criminal charges for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the feet and suffering injuries, fellow rapper Tory Lanez received a lengthy jail sentence during his anticipated sentencing on Tuesday.  The Tory Lanez sentencing was originally set to happen on Monday, but the judge delayed until Tuesday to allow for additional clarity, statements and transparency.

UPDATE:  On Tuesday, August 8th, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in state prison.  Lanez basically received 6 years for the assault and an additional four years for the mitigating circumstances of possessing a gun. There was no mention of deportation, even though that was potentially on the table since Tory, born Daystar Peterson was born in Canada.

31-year-old Daystar Peterson, known to the world as Tory Lanez, is facing 22 years in prison. Los Angeles prosecutors asked for him to be sentenced to 13 years.

In addition to the offenses for which he was found guilty, they claimed in a sentencing memorandum, Lanez had re-traumatized Megan with his social media posts about the case, giving many of his 2+ million followers license to attack her.

On Monday, Megan might show up in court to deliver a victim impact statement or have one read for her.

In their own sentencing document, Lanez’s attorneys argued that he should receive merely probation and be let out of custody so that he can enroll in a residential drug rehabilitation program.

They claim that the evidence used to support Lanez’s conviction was “questionable at best” and that his lack of sympathy should not therefore be taken into consideration when determining his sentence. According to the report, alcohol abuse and early trauma would be contributing causes if the charges were accurate.

Since a Los Angeles jury found the “SKAT” rapper guilty of three crimes in December, including assault with a semiautomatic weapon, having an unregistered/loaded firearm in a vehicle, and negligently firing a firearm, he has been imprisoned.

When Megan strolled away from an SUV in which they had been travelling in the summer of 2020, Lanez had shot the gun towards the back of her feet and yelled for her to dance, according to testimony she provided during the trial.

On May 9, Lanez’s defense team requested a new trial, but Superior Court Judge David Herriford, who will sentence the Ontario native, rejected their request. The conviction will be challenged by Lanez’s attorneys.
