Week 10/18/10 – 10/25/10, Week in Review
What. A. Week! The Bitter Housewife of D.C., pregnancy rumors, and the return of the music video were only some of what happened in the last seven days in the realm of news & entertainment. With so much going on, we don’t blame you for needing a quick refresher of the week’s top stories. So let Parlé give you the scoop so you’ll be prepared for the all the water cooler talk Monday morning in this Week in Review.
ANITA HILL REJECTS FAKE OLIVE BRANCH
We have to start the Week in Review with this one when the nation was shocked when news broke that Virginia “Ginny” Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice (and resident Uncle Tom) Clarence Thomas, left Anita Hill a voicemail on her work phone asking Ms. Hill to apologize. For those of us who may have been too young to remember, or just need a reminder, Anita Hill was asked to testify during Thomas’ Supreme Court confirmation hearings about sexual harassment she alleges she endured from Thomas. There were apparently inappropriate jokes, statements, and something about a Coke can with pubic hair. Despite the controversy, Thomas narrowly won his spot on the Supreme Court with a vote of 52-48.
Thomas’ wife “Ginny” is still holding a grudge against the woman who almost derailed her husband’s career, and called Anita Hill, now a law professor at Brandeis University, at 7:30am – a time when most folks aren’t at work or taking calls. This was problematic for two reasons; 1.) It’s been 19 years. Let it go. Even if you believe that your husband was innocent (insert snicker here), it’s been almost two decades. 2.) What kind of a punk move is it to call early in the morning when you know the object of your spite won’t be there, just to leave a message under the guise of extending “an olive branch,” as Mrs. Thomas so eloquently put it?
Seriously though, what could have possessed this woman to make such a bonehead move, especially when her husband is already facing scrutiny because of his wife’s current political endeavor, a conservative non-profit organization called Liberty Central. Many have speculated that the organization’s anonymous donor list could jeopardize Justice Thomas’ impartiality.
Regardless of Mrs. Thomas’ stupidity as of late, Ms. Hill has remained undeterred. On Tuesday she released a statement saying, “I have no intention of apologizing because I testified truthfully about my experience and I stand by that testimony.”
But all the old feelings and political quagmires aside, you have to wonder what reignited this 19-year-old issue for Mrs. Thomas? Did Clarence pull the old “Coke can with public hair” prank again? Either way, I’m switching to Pepsi.
BOUNCING BEYONCÉ BABIES?
In this weeks Week in Review, the rumor mill kicked itself into overdrive again when news of Beyoncé’s apparent pregnancy leaked to the masses. The only problem was that it apparently wasn’t true. Tina Knowles, aka Beyoncé’s Mom, set the record straight while taping an episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show. It seems that rumors of a bouncing baby Beyoncé or Jay Jr. hit the airwaves every other year. Judging by the stealthy manner in which the power couple has handled their relationship in the past, don’t bet on learning about the couple’s first bundle of joy until after it graduates college.
KANYE & WILLOW VIDEOS DEBUT BIG
While the power of the music video may have quelled over the last decade, it seems that with enough creativity and effective marketing, folks can still get hyped. Last week saw the premieres of Kanye West’s epic mini-movie, “Runaway.” The Nicki Minaj narrated clip has many saying that it’s a lyrical and visual stunner. Just make sure to make a snack before you plop down to watch it. The clip is almost 40 minutes long.
For her part, celeb progeny Willow Smith lived up to the hype of her highly anticipated video for her debut single, “Whip My Hair.” The ladies’ anthem may have a confidence and bravado typically found with self-actualized adults, but the kid-friendly video was as age-appropriate as it was entertaining. While it’s still too early to tell if little Willow will actually grow into a bona fide artist, she’s definitely off to a hair-whipping start.
CHRISTINA MILIAN GOES IN ON DREAM’S MISTRESS
The Week In Review takes a scandalous turn here because according to MediaTakeOut, Christina Milian confronted her former friend (and assistant to her husband) Melissa Santiago, who was caught creeping with her then-husband, producer The Dream. Peep the alleged email exchange below:
“Melissa do you understand I put more than work into this. And still was. I was very attentive to trying to understand what was wrong. We talked for hours, we would make up. Have sex. Talk again. He is my husband and that is OUR business. No matter what. M that was very inappropriate and YOU KNOW he’s my husband. We were just gonna get married again. I dunno what he was telling you but I’m sure its some sad story. But I am telling you I have loved and cared about my husband this whole time. My relationship was actually on its way to working . I can send you the emails to prove it. We have and are still married. It wasn’t your job to come in and sleep with a married man. Especially knowing my situation as a married and pregnant wife. After what happened to your mom. You should know better”
Here is the homewrecker’s Melissa’s response:
Tina, It’s not about being proud or not. Did you want me to say that to you when your relationship wasn’t working?? Are you proud you messed up? Hurt Dream? It is what it is. As much care and attention, I’m sure you are going to put into this and those pictures, you should of put into your relationship. Don’t try to blame me for it because honestly I had nothing to do with it.
If these emails are indeed authentic, then Ms. Santiago had better hope “Karma” was nothing more than an Alicia Keyes song, because the Karmic Kamuffins on this steaming load of triflin’ would most definitely be major for her, as well as The Dream.
