We all look at celebrities, particularly some of the massive superstars out there, and wonder why they don’t retire. Many of them earn huge amounts just for a single film or song, yet they continue working. But is it all as it seems? While celebrities make big money, they spend it too, so not all can retire as early as we may think.
All you have to do is take a look at the lavish lifestyle so many of them lead – private jets, luxury sports cars, massive homes, designer clothing, and vacations all the time – and it’s obvious that retiring early may not exactly be financially possible for them unless they are willing to make some big changes.
With that said, there are some celebrities that seem to have figured it all out. So, let’s take a look at four celebrities who could enjoy an early retirement and don’t “have” to keep on working if they don’t want to.

When diving in to see which celebrities can retire early, we should take a look at what we mean by that. We mean becoming financially independent, and that’s not something all actors can afford. If they’re to afford their house rather than move to assisted living San Jose, they need to have retirement plans in place just like us. So, here are a few who do.
Deadpool has it sorted
Ryan Reynolds is one of several celebrities that has his fingers in many pies outside of acting. Reynolds famously bought into Aviation Gin back in 2018 and then used his massive star-power and creative talent to churn out a marketing campaign like no-one has ever seen. His investment amount was never disclosed, but just this August, Aviation Gin was bought out by Diageo (a large multinational alcohol company) for a whopping $610 million. So you gotta figure his share was pretty impressive.
On top of that, he’s the owner of Mint Mobile and has even recently bought Wrexham FC in Wales to add to this growing portfolio of investments. He is also now a board member on a parent company that has some of the biggest dating apps out there, again diversifying his portfolio.
Then there is his acting career, which is doing quite well! Forbes just named him as the second-highest-paid actor this year. His net worth was valued at around $100 million. Considering he is just 44 years old, which is decades away from retirement age, he’s doing extremely well. Even if he were to quit acting today, his other ventures would bring in the money needed to retire comfortably.
Did you know that Reynolds has also built quite the name for himself behind the camera? Reynolds has now directed a number of movies, showing he’s got skills behind and in front of the camera.
Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson
Similarly, The Rock has also made many investments himself. The most notable of these is his Teremana tequila brand a lot of celebrities seem to be making alcohol the way to go for their futures. This tequila was years in the making but since its debut has proved incredibly popular, likely keeping The Rock going well into retirement.
But his tequila brand is just one part of the machine that is The Rock. It was just this October that he earned the title of “the most followed man in America” with a shocking 200 million followers on Instagram alone.
Other ventures include authoring a book back in the 90s, starring in some of the biggest blockbuster movies over the past decade, acting as an executive and now a producer on films, creating his own production company Seven Bucks Production with his ex-wife, entered into a partnership with the clothing and accessories company Under Armour, creating his own app on the Apple store, branching out to the digital world with Seven Bucks Digital Studios, and more. It seems like every time you read about The Rock he’s launching or branching out into something new.
Estimates have his net worth pinned at about $320 million.
Wolverine gets his claws in coffee
Still sticking with drinks, Hugh Jackman of Wolverine fame has also made significant investments that will stand him in good stead later on in life. Jackman didn’t intend to make a coffee brand, Laughing Man Coffee, but he has. It may not give quite so much back to him in later years, though – 100% of the profits are given back to the coffee-growing communities used. Outside of acting, he is also a producer, philanthropist, and businessman. His estimated net worth is about $150 million.
Stealing into the top earners
Ocean 11’s George Clooney has also done very well for himself and has also mastered the art of diversifying his portfolio. Back in 2018, the actor was listed as one of the highest celebrity earners by Forbes. And this is all thanks to his creation of the Casamigos Tequila company, which was sold at $1 billion. Let’s not forget he’s also involved in Nespresso too and invested in a satellite over Sudan to spot war crimes!
This A-list actor has an estimated net worth of $500 million, which also makes him one of the richest actors in the entire world. And it’s not just acting Clooney; has also directed films, giving him a chance to really hone his skills in the entertainment industry.
Who can’t manage to retire early?
While there are some successful celebs out there, those that can easily retire, not all are good with their money. Just like us, some celebrities do not consider their future or even commit fraud, getting caught out later in life. Wesley Snipes, for instance, may have been a badass on screen, but when it comes to dodging his taxes, he wasn’t so good at getting away with it!
Another notable name is Nicolas Cage. The actor went broke, even though he was earning $40 million a movie as recently as 2009. Unfortunately, he likes to spend and was soon in huge amounts of debt. Ever wondered why he’s always in a ton of movies? Well, he needs to earn enough to pay everyone back. No early retirement for him any time soon!

At the end of the day, the celebrities who seem to be doing the best and can retire early are those who are not only good with their money but diversify their portfolio, branching out of just acting.
