Being around a crying baby can be trying for any of us, especially one that is not your own. But I don’t think any of us would fathom hearing someone who was in the middle of a rant being told they were yelling to respond by saying “SO IS THE BABY”! The quote went viral after video of the man ranting about a baby on a flight was shared on social media.
The crying baby (which sounds more like a toddler than a baby-baby) magically stops crying halfway through this man’s rant which leads me to believe the people they were traveling with could’ve done more to meet whatever need they were expressing.

Apparently on a SouthWest flight to Orlando, a black male passenger (whose name is unknown at this time) began to express very strongly his disgust in having to listen to a crying baby for over 45 minutes while in what he described as an “echo chamber”. The flight attendants attempted to get the man to calm down and be reasonable, as his complaint was about a baby. “You are a grown man”, one flight attendant said to the man, “that’s a baby”.
The man, who is now being called “SO IS THE BABY” guy, continued to express how he felt the child should have been quieted by the parents in a reasonable amount of time. With what appeared to be his wife by his side also trying to get the man to calm down, the man’s rant and refusal to get off of the plane caused the flight to be deplaned.
Once at the close airport, officials spoke with the man who explained his side of the matter, what came of the incident is unknown at this time. Once the video taken by another passenger on the plane began to circulate around Twitter, users began to say their peace about the matter.
“SO IS THE BABY” began trending with some users concerned about the man ranting about a crying baby, others understanding his point of view, but maybe would have taken a different approach. Check out some Twitter reactions below:
If you can’t handle the sound of a crying baby or toddler, maybe air travel or being in public isn’t for you. Personally, I’d be embarrassed by my inability to cope with something so basic that happens all the time. But I just believe that’s part of being a functioning adult.
