Megan Thee Stallion truly is one of a kind. From anime to K-pop, she’s posted cosplays of famous anime characters and collaborated with artists from Korea and Japan. She isn’t into what a stereotypical Black woman tends to be interested in, and that has called for a lot of opinions from the public, some good and some bad. Despite this, Megan is unapologetically her. She has a strong personality that she stays true to. It’s one of the things that many of her fans love about her. That’s why the revelation that she was launching a new KPOPPED series made so much sense!
KPOPPED
Megan Thee Stallion, PSY and Lionel Richie, among others are teaming up for the brand new music series. Premiering on Apple TV+ on August 29th, the show will feature multiple big names in western music and K-pop music. The different artists will team up for song and dance battles. There will also be a performance in front of a live audience in Seoul, South Korea, at the end of each episode. Here the audience will get to see the K-pop remix version of popular songs in western music.
Megan Thee Stallion and PSY, who will be hosting the show, are sure to keep it entertaining. PSY is a Korean American singer known for the hit song, “Gangnam Style,” which premiered back in 2012.
The K-pop groups participating in the eight-episode series (in order of episode) include BILLIE, Itzy, KEP1ER, JO1, Ateez, StayC, Kiss of Life, and Black Swan.
American artists include Ava Max, TLC, Boyz II Men, of course Megan herself, and more.
According to the producer, the goal is not only to entertain. The team hopes to show off the culture of K-pop and the city of Seoul. They also hope to see what magic is created when mixed with western art. Executive producer Harry H.K. Shin said, “This series is a tribute to the passion and precision that define K-pop – and the fans that made it the powerful genre that it is today” (Billboard).

Recently, Megan Thee Stallion posted a preview of the show on her Instagram.

The preview shows beautiful stages, snippets of seemingly complex choreographies, and moments between the K-Pop idols and American celebrities. With how different the K-pop industry is than the western music industry, it will be interesting to see how these stars are able to come together and put on a show. You can even hear Columbian singer J Balvin tell a member of Ateez that he isn’t a good dancer as he asks them to take it easy on him.
Stay tuned for the show on August 29th. You won’t want to miss it.
