Social media has opened the door for many comedic characters to show their talent, one being Marco Summers, professionally known as “Funny Marco.” With 1.44 million+ subscribers on YouTube and 5.3 million+ subscribers on Instagram, the guy is a big deal on social media. So, how did he get there? What does he want for the future? Our look at the rise of Funny Marco.
Humble Beginnings
Marco Summers, 32 was born on June 19th, 1993. He is originally from Kansas City, Missouri, but eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He currently has two kids that he posts on social media from time to time, but in terms of relationships and other family, nothing else is fully confirmed.
Funny Marco started his social media journey with prank videos that he’d post on Instagram and YouTube. His first post was a 2-minute video called “Kansas City first 48,” which he posted to YouTube in 2018. It was a skit where (fake) officials questioned suspects about a (fake) drug exchange that turned into a murder. The video only has 16k views, so it is amazing to see just how far he’s come over the last seven years.
Rising to Fame
Many of his earlier videos were short and sweet, but the skits have definitely improved over time. Just six months after the first video came out, he made another skit called “SHE DIDN’T EXPECT THAT!!” where a man walks in on his girlfriend cheating. That video got to 12 million views and over 100k likes on YouTube. After that, many of his skit videos got millions of views which raked in many subscribers.
Another key factor of Marco’s success is brand deals. He’s had deals with multiple companies including Spotify, BET, Footaction, Fashion Nova, and more. He also launched his own merchandise for fans, which made for additional income.
Open Thoughts
On October 1st, 2023, Funny Marco launched his podcast “Open Thoughts.” At it’s core, the podcast consists of Marco inviting well-known celebrities to interview them. However, what makes it so special is the unique discomfort of the show. The humor is very dry and random which can makes it unsettling, but also entertaining and funny. Some people he’s had on the show include Nicki Minaj, Latto, Kevin Hart, and more. Here are a few funny moments from the show.
- Sexyy Red wants to join the church. This should be very wholesome and family friendly… right?
- Lil Baby teaching the ABC’s. Definitely a creative way to learn.
- Tia Kemp and her new teeth. How do you guys feel about veneers?
- Nicki Minaj’s discussion about Kool-aid. That got off topic fast.
- Kevin Hart’s confusion. People say it seems he met his match.
- Toosi’s kids. Or…are they his kids?
- NLE Choppa. A second Nelly?
- Nicki Minaj Zelle requests. Why would she send you money for free?
Recent Events
Recently, “Funny Marco” decided to drop the “Funny” and just go by his legal name, Marco Summers. While humor is definitely his thing, as he used it as a coping mechanism as a kid to deal with troubles including dyslexia, he decided that he wants to move on from the persona. He wants to be known as himself, Marco Summers, and hopes the name change will show his growth.
His recent Marco Summers tour was his first foray into using his real name.
