Author and award winning celebrity plastic surgeon, Dr. Stanley Okoro is the lead surgeon and the founder of Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Okoro is a world-renowned double board certified plastic surgeon, with more than two decades years of experience known for his expertise in Breast Augmentation and Reconstruction as well as his famous Brazilian Butt Lift.  Additionally, he recently won Best Self Magazine’s Best Brazilian Butt Lift.

We met the man revolutionizing plastic surgery to talk about best practices, his recently released book on Brazilian Butt Lifts and performing surgery live on social media.

Parlé Mag:  Let’s talk about your forthcoming book, why did you decide to write about Brazilian Butt Lifts?
Dr. Okoro: For the last five to ten years, people have come to me with questions. About a year ago, I figured that if people keep asking me the [same] questions then there must not be good information out there. In doing my research, I also discovered that there wasn’t a book geared towards the consumer. My book, is in layman’s terms, addressing the questions and concerns for individuals interested in the Brazilian Butt Lift.

Parlé Mag:  And within 3 days of release, you all were trending as number one new release on Amazon. Congratulations, that’s huge!
Dr. Okoro: Thank God for that!

Parlé Mag:  What made you want to become a plastic surgeon?
Dr. Okoro: I wanted to be a neurosurgeon, initially after finishing medical school. In one of my rotations, I had a patient with breast cancer that needed a mastectomy. The plastic surgeon came in and there I was clueless, wondering how they were going to reconstruct her breast that had been removed! I was very impressed that they were able to create new breasts from her tummy. It was the coolest thing I ever seen in my life, it was a game changer to me. From that day forward, I wanted to be a plastic surgeon. It was a long road; at the time I was in the navy and they weren’t on board for me changing my focus. For 12 years, I petitioned them to change to plastic surgery and my last year, they told me yes. That’s how I knew that this is what I wanted. It took a long time, but I never wavered, it was my destiny.

Dr. Okoro
Parlé Mag:  That’s impressive. And a true testament of strong-willed determination. You are also known for performing surgeries live on Instagram and Facebook. How did that come about?
Dr. Okoro: It stemmed from my friendship with Dr. Miami and him putting snippets on Snapchat. Years ago, the operating room was a mystery. With mystery comes concerns, anxiety and all sorts of stuff. We have a large youthful following and they asked to see what happens during surgical procedures. Watching Dr. Miami encouraged me to stream live and answer questions along the way.

Parlé Mag:  That doesn’t make you nervous at all?
Dr. Okoro: No, because I do this a lot, people are always watching whether I’m in my office or training other doctors. It’s natural to us, it makes our patients and their families more comfortable as well.

Parlé Mag:  I love that you just mentioned that because many people are opting to get procedures done in other countries [alone] to offset cost. What should potential patients be looking for in a surgeon?
Dr. Okoro: First thing anyone should do is make sure the surgeon is board certified, then ask what they are board certified in. A lot of people don’t know this, but any doctor in this country can perform plastic surgery whether they had weekend training or went through an extensive program such as we did. Cosmetic surgeons aren’t the same as plastic surgeons. Most importantly, do your research without using price as a determinant because you get what you pay for. If you want a bargain, go to Best Buy but your body isn’t where you should be looking for a bargain. The best place to find a board certified plastic surgeon is through the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Parlé Mag:  Wow, what great information! Are there non-invasive procedures that people can get to achieve similar results of plastic surgery?
Dr. Okoro: We have an advanced medical spa that offer services like Cool-Scultping, facial rejuvenation, fat reduction, anti-aging… anything that you want, we can do it!

Parlé Mag:  Any final piece of advice for those looking into services or anything else you want to share with us about what you have going on?
Dr. Okoro: I want to emphasize, again, the importance of research. In addition to reviews, really study the before and after photos. Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask your surgeon, “What will you do if this doesn’t work?” Be aware of what they can offer you, but just as with any other relationship, create and know what the exit strategy is by asking the “what-if” questions.

Parlé Mag:  Dr. O, you have been awesome! Thank you for sharing your story and professional advice with Parlé Mag.
