Are big-time rappers into cryptocurrency? These days, the terms ‘web3,’ ‘NFTs,’ ‘blockchain’ and ‘cryptocurrency’ are primarily trending subjects the general public enjoys chatting about via social media or at the dinner table.

However, there are various mainstream rappers that have their ears on the blockchain streets, and instead of merely talking about it they’ve elected to invest their dollars into cryptocurrency technology.

Most major rappers are visionaries, possessing the keen ability to forward think and ‘see the big picture.’ Same thing goes for cryptocurrency — these music stars see the grand scheme of things as far as encryption tech goes versus the everyday man who’s accustomed to marching to the beat of the masses’ drum.

So, the question remains, what big-time rappers have made investments in cryptocurrency? Check out below a few of them.

Are Big-Time Rappers Into Cryptocurrency?! Here Are A Few…

JAY-Z

This may not surprise you, because no one in Hip-Hop does it like Jay-Z when it comes to investments. The “Run This Town” rapper partnered with Jack Dorsey (Twitter Founder) and launched a Bitcoin fund for India and Africa worth 500 BTC (roughly $11.69M). ₿trust is the name of the venture. The investment was sent over to a crypto wallet, and neither party can ask for a refund because it was an ‘irrevocable and blind injection of funds.’ In addition, the Hip-Hop mogul is also a silent investor in Robinhood (a centralized platform designed to buy and trade crypto).

SNOOP DOGG

When it comes to rappers in cryptocurrency, Snoop Dogg may be the biggest dog of them all (no pun intended). So much so, the Death Row Records boss even has his own cryptocurrency! Snoop has an NFT collection worth millions of dollars, owns digital real estate worth seven figures, and even launched his own NFT projects. Likewise, in Feb. 2022 (around the time he headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show) the “From The D 2 The LBC” rapper launched his blockchain album B.O.D.R. via Gala Music (the world’s first decentralized music imprint). Later in the year, Snoop also launched an album on Gala Music with Ice Cube, E-40, and Too Short.

DRAKE

Drake‘s investments in cryptocurrency aren’t well-known, but one thing we’ve learned is that he loves to make sports bets with Bitcoin! For instance, the Toronto native just lost $400K worth of BTC in the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury fight. On the flip side, Drizzy bet $965K in Bitcoin that the Kansas City Chiefs would beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 2023. As a result, the OVO Sound mogul took home $512K worth of BTC in profit.

MEEK MILL

That’s right, Philly rappers are heavy in the cryptocurrency realm. Back in 2021, Meek Mill invested $50K into Dogecoin (a cryptocurrency considered to be a ‘meme coin). Following the buy, Meek took to Twitter: “I just grabbed some doge I’m tired of missing out.” Presently, the meme coin has a market cap of $10.74B and is ranked the #10 coin in the crypto market. Following his tweet, the MMG star announced he was going to buy Shiba Inu coins. Though it was never confirmed, rumor has it Meek purchased 432 billion SHIB coins.

NIPSEY HUSSLE

The late Nipsey Hussle is credited as the first major rapper to speak about cryptocurrency investment. In 2017, Nipsey partnered with Follow Coin (an Amsterdam-based crypto investment firm). The Crenshaw native said it best in an interview when he reiterated what one of his business partners told him: “Nip, this how you gotta look at the blockchain. The blockchain is like the internet in 1994. Fast-forward the internet to 2018, we got Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter, [and] Amazon. All multi-billion dollar industries that was built off of this technological innovation called the internet.”
