Selena Gomez is facing criticism for what appeared to be an endorsement of her Hulu show Only Murders in the Building in a post on Instagram. The singer deleted the post after several of her followers accused her of violating the strike guidelines.

The post (which is now-deleted) included a tag for the series’ official Instagram account and appeared to be a video from the set of the comedy show.

“Missing and wanting,” read the post’s caption. According to Variety, the tweet received over 1.1 million likes in just 15 hours before Gomez erased it from her account. Both Gomez’s reps and SAG-AFTRA apparently declined to speak out about the situation.

Members are not permitted to advertise their work via social media or in the media while SAG-AFTRA is on strike.

The “My Mind & Me” songstress tagged the series’ official account, hinting it was from the Only Murders in the Building set, although she didn’t speak in the set video or encourage watching.

Selena Gomez Takes Down Her Instagram Post

It is debatable whether Gomez’s post violates the rules. One online supporter referred to the post she made during the strikes as “tone deaf” and accused her of scabbering.

Starring in the crime drama Only Murders in the Building are Oliver (Martin Short), Charles (Steve Martin), and Mabel (Gomez), who are looking into a death that occurred during the making of Oliver’s Broadway play.

The singer has been a regular on the show from the series’ inception. Mabel is a young artist with a talent for uncovering crimes in New York City.

Since joining forces with the WGA (Writers Guild of America), the screenwriters’ organization, since June 14 thousands of actors have been on strike to seek greater pay among other things.

The dominance of streaming platforms, which has altered every facet of production and compensation in the business, has prompted both guilds to confront these challenges.

Writers and actors have protested outside of movie and television studios for the first time since 1960, practically shutting Hollywood down.
