After all the chatter surrounding Jeezy filing for divorce for Jeannie Mai, it looks like the Atlanta rapper finally decided to speak out. In a statement released on Thursday, Jeezy said “love & respect remains” between the two parties.

“The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart,” Jeezy said in the statement. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart. Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship, and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves. During this period, I kindly request that you respect our family’s privacy as we focus on healing.”

As Parle Magazine previously reported, Jeezy filed for divorce from Jeannie Mai back in September after about two and half years of marriage. According to documents obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the rapper filed at a Fulton County Court. Per the filing, Jeezy and Jeannie have already been separated.

Jeezy is also reportedly seeking joint custody of his and Jeannie Mai’s one-year-old daughter Monaco Mai-Jenkins. The estranged couple, Atlanta Journal-Consitution’s report states, have a prenuptial agreement in place. They’ve also been reportedly living under the same roof in Georgia which makes for an uncomfortable situation.

An insider said, Jeannie is “devastated” and “wants her family unit back.”

“The truth is Jeannie wants her marriage to work, and wants her family to be one solid unit. She is devastated that Jeezy filed for divorce,” a source told Page Six.

The source added that Jeannie still “deeply loves” Jeezy and “wants to work things out” as divorce was not “a part of the plan.”

“[Jeannie] deeply loves Jeezy, and she wants to work things out. She did not get married to get divorced. This was not a part of the plan. This is not how she ever imagined things would go down.”
