Is Queen Latifah capable of anything? With the Queen Latifah national anthem performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey prior to the New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday, the rapper, actor, and producer allayed any skepticism.
One day before the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Queen Latifah wowed with her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” complete with a backing chorus of members from the New York Police Department and New York City Fire Department.
The stadium sent off red fireworks as a huge American flag dominated the field around halfway through the song.
The stadium and the world wide web were both in awe of the star’s performance. Many social media users appeared to have forgotten that the multi-hyphenate began her career as an emcee and singer.
“Queen Latifah sings? Who knew….” one viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I had no clue Queen Latifah sings,” another added.

Others on X/Twitter berated individuals who weren’t aware of the queen’s professional history.
One commenter said, “Not knowing Queen Latifah sings is…hmm.”
“You guys really didn’t know Queen Latifah can sing and rap? Under what rock have you guys been?” another user shared including a GIF of a woman scratching her head and having a perplexed expression.
Additionally, some social media users speculated about Queen Latifah performing during the Super Bowl halftime show.
“This is SB worthy,” one user posted. Another shared. “Can we just vote Queen Latifah for the halftime show right now please and thank you NFL powers that be?”
Even though the performer for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show hasn’t been revealed, they’ll have huge shoes to fill after Rihanna’s musical comeback earlier this year.
