Natasha Mosley Is Greatness Before Our Eyes

The success of an individual cannot be measured through the eyes of others.  Only the person in question knows of what they’ve had to sacrifice to get where they’re going.  Some may call naturally gifted singer/songwriter Natasha Mosley an overnight success, but to do so would be an insult to her natural talent and impeccable hustle.  Natasha has been nicknamed the R&B Princess because of her sultry voice and incredible potential.  She’s not the first songstress to earn the moniker, but for her part, living up to it is quite the motivation.

Natasha Mosley was able to take time out of her busy schedule to sit down with Parlé Magazine to discuss her musical upbringing and legendary roots along with the release of her upcoming independent debut album.

The 24 year old singer is destined to set the music world on fire with her catchy hooks, gorgeous looks and proactive lyrics.  One of the first mainstream opportunities to do so for the Atlanta native came when the song, “All The Time” by Jeremih, which she is featured on alongside Lil Wayne was featured on the Magic Mike XXL soundtrack.  The introduction to her voice was just the beginning.

A lot of people may not know this but Natasha’s great-grandmother was the legendary Bessie Smith.  Smith was the subject of a HBO biopic released earlier this year starring Queen Latifah.  “When I talk to my family members about my great-grandmother Bessie, one of the things that constantly comes up is how she was able to sing in a crowded room without a microphone and still be heard. Even though I’m small, I have a very powerful voice as well.” Natasha wanted it to be known that although she’s related to the great Bessie Smith, she hopes to make a name for herself because she has that same talent and spirit of greatness running though her veins.

“Both of my parents got me into music but it was really my dad that knew I had a knack for it and gave me that push,” Natasha explained, speaking on her introduction into music. She spent her earlier years singing in church, performing regularly in local talents shows, which landed her a performance on Showtime at the Apollo.

Mosley’s amazing performance garnered the attention of Michael Mauldin, Jermaine Dupri’s dad, and a renowned  music executive in his own right. Mauldin added Mosley to his girl group, The Feisty Girl Project. but that situation was not a good fit for Natasha’s fresh vocal abilities. She later attracted the attention of former Xscape member Tameka “Tiny” Cottle,  who placed Mosley in her girl group Juice. The trio even got a chance to appear on the BET hit reality series Toya & Tiny.  Unfortunately, much like the previous girl group, it wasn’t the right fit for Natasha so she struck out on her own and was able to make a name for herself. “It was all a learning experience for me,” Natasha declares, as she recalled her earlier days in the music.

Now currently signed to the independent ISO Music Group, Natasha has already released her first independent album Rose Hall, which features guest appearances from artists like YG, Tyga, Lil’ Wayne, Gucci Mane and Jeremih.  “Rose Hall is my very first body of work that I’ve ever put out. I got the name from my grandmother’s from both my mother and father’s side by putting their names together. I often feel like a rose because whenever I sing I’m opening myself up to people. I’ve gotten a lot of love from it so far. I’m very happy about it and so is everyone involved,” Natasha shared.

The single, “Anything” has created a decent buzz for the singer as well.  The track once again finds her collaborating with Jeremih.  “The inspiration for  “Anything” came from when I was at a strip club with a male friend,” Natasha revealed sheepishly. Admittedly she was so amazed at the women working at the club that she felt like anything that they could do she could do better.

The behind the scenes work on the album is quite interesting as well. Production comes from FKI, who have worked with 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Travis Scott and many notable others, as well as Grammy winning  producer Zaytoven, who won a 2011 Grammy Award for his contribution to Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond album as well as many other countless hits. KE On The Track also appears on the project. The 17-track selection is a unique blend of hit after hit guaranteed to not only put the listener in the mood but also showcase Natasha’s impressive vocal range.

Natasha is currently working on another project entitled, Naytoven, a collaboration project with producer Zaytoven, which will be released later this year.  The singer/production duo recently released the single from that project, a passionate record called, “Face In The Pillow.”

“Always keep God first,” Natasha offered when asked about giving advice to aspiring artists. “Be true to who you are as a person and don’t let anyone change you.”  Natasha can be found on social media sites like Instagram, Twitter, Soundclound, YouTube and Facebook by simply searching Natasha Mosley.

Adrian "A.D." Dubard

Born in Washington DC, Adrian was placed in the care of his maternal grandparents after his mother died when he was a baby. For the most part of his life, Adrian’s biological father was absent from his life. Growing up with a house full of cousins, aunts and uncles, Adrian began his love of writing to document his surroundings. Attending a private school for 9 ½ years, it was there that many influential teachers help strengthen his love of writing via English and creative writing classes. Even though, Adrian loved to write he was reserved about what he wrote about. Leaving DC at the age of 7, Adrian and his family moved to Temple Hills, Maryland in Prince George’s not too far from where he had lived previously. Luckily, Adrian had taken part in many youth outreach programs as a youth that allowed him to travel and see the country, many kids he knew around his own age hadn’t even left the city. These experiences opened his eyes to other cultures and ways of living. As a teenager, Adrian had many friends who passed away before their time but he promised to keep writing to honor their memory. Other than writing, Adrian has helped various charities rise by going on public speaking tours. Some of these charities include The Safe Haven Project and The Journey of Hope. He has contributed to several book projects and currently resides in Queens, NY. Read more articles by Adrian.
