Drake is apart of two “gangs” now — Young Money and Dipset. Following their performances last weekend in Harlem, Jim Jones laurelled Champagne Papi the fifth member of Dipset. On Thursday (January 26), the “A Monster Made It” rapper shared a video via Instagram of Drake sporting a jacket spangled with the crew’s logo as “Oh Boy” bumped through the speakers. In the caption, Jones wrote: “@champagnepapi official 5th member of #DIPSet. U did tht thnku bless up to the whole #OVO.”
Recently, Drake performed at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem and he brought Dipset out on stage at both of his shows. During night one, Jim Jones gifted Drizzy a custom OVO x Dipset bracelet, and the “Find Your Love” rapper wore Killa Cam‘s famed pink fur hat and coat. Before Jim, Freekey Zekey, Juelz and Cam left the stage, the Toronto native said to the crowd: “These guys right here from Harlem made us dress different, talk different, walk different, rap different — all the way in Canada.” During the second night, Jim and Juelz flaunted custom Dipset x OVO jackets, while The 6 God donned Cam‘s celebrated Diplomats’ U.S. flag jacket.
Just like Fat Joe passed six times on signing Eminem back in the day, Jim Jones had an opportunity to sign Drake prior to him inking a deal with Lil Wayne. The Dipset capo previously stated: “Drake definitely ran across my desk. I got a call from Alan Grunblatt, I think I was on tour, and Alan was like, ‘I got this guy named Drake, he’s an actor, he’s on Degrassi.’ I’m like, ‘Who the f*ck is Drake on Degrassi?’ He let me hear him rapping, like, this boy could rap his ass off. Then I looked at him, I’m like, ‘Boy, what do you mean? What am I going to do with boy? He’s an actor, he’s in a wheelchair on the Disney Channel.’ I’m like, ‘Boy, I don’t know how to make this work out.’”
Jones furthered: “Once again, I just wasn’t seeing past what I seen in front of me. Weezy was smart enough to do so, and I remember being on another tour in the back of the bus and hearing Weezy and Drake rapping and Drake saying something about Princess Diana and it’s going crazy. I’m like, ‘Wow, life is crazy. This ngga is dead nasty, fck what he look like.’”
