New York–SOBs was rocking on a Wednesday night in frigid New York from the Rockie Fresh Electric Highway Tour. The temperature was about the average age of the performers outside, but inside the venue was a sweat box. Chicago-native and Maybach Music Group signer Rockie Fresh and a handful of newcomer rappers were looking to set the stage ablaze, making the weather one of the last things on the minds of audience members. With Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and MMG affiliates lounging in the VIP area, an appearance by Ross was a personal expectation. Instead Rockie Fresh seemed a bit of a beginner to headlining a venue whereas he lacked crowd interaction and kept his movements at pace level. It was sort of a celebration to the release of his mixtape, Electric Highway, an introduction to the New York City crowd and nothing spectacular from an artist still searching for a sound to fit him.
All in all the concert was good. It showcased some awesome talent such as Sir Michael Rocks (l) (formerly of The Cool Kids), Sasha Go Hard and Lunice. Plus, it was something to do on an extremely cold New York night and I wasn’t disappointed because there weren’t any expectations.
