NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!!! The Blueprint on How to Make The New Year Change

This time of the year as we all know it seems to be when people are putting up the typical “new year new me” or “I’m not taking this drama with me into the new year” and the list goes on. Truth be told people don’t keep these so called New Year resolutions. We seem to think that because of the date change  we can all of sudden become a more on time person, a workout addict, and build a savings account in 3 weeks. I think that we lose sight of a few things in the process of trying to do better. So here are a few feel good reminders and tips to help encourage you along the way.

Set realistic goals for yourself. Don’t try to change everything that you feel is wrong or needs repair in your life all at once. Make a list of the top 5 to 10 depending on your list and work on one or two from the list to concentrate on each month. By the time the month is up it would pretty much be a habit then each following month add one to two more from the list. You could get a lot done in a year.

Celebrate the small victories. If you accomplished any part of your goal for a day, a week, or the whole month celebrate it and give yourself a pat on the back. Don’t spend money that you are trying to save or eat a piece of cake since you went two days without sugar. But it is most definitely something to be happy about. Take each day at a time and be proud of yourself for doing what you said you were going to do.

Encourage someone else.
Stay encouraged by encouraging someone else. It’s free, can make someone else feel good and remind you to keep at it. Things like this are contagious and can make the difference in a person’s day. We can all agree that the world needs more of this. This is something that will be returned back to you on a day where you are not very motivated.

Accountability.
If you are struggling with eating well and working out get a partner that already works out on a regular so that way you know they are already going and you won’t have to worry about them flaking out on you plus it will be that reminder to get you thinking about your goals. Try hiring a professional it’s their job to help get you on track and take the stress out of helping you develop a regimen. Having a problem saving money? Try getting an extra account that you can have to make deposits in from your checking account on the same day as payday so that you don’t even have a chance to see it in your active checking account.

These tips may be hard or simply not helpful for certain situations but after the newness of the year wears off you still want to be steadfast in your goals. Whatever it is that you set for yourself to accomplish, finish, or get better at know that change is hard and it is not going to happen overnight. It is going to take adding up the good days and bad days that lead to weeks and months of results so never stop trying even after the bad days!
