New Single From Joey Badass Brooklyn’s Own Reps For BK

Brooklyn bred emcee, Joey Bada$$ is back fresh off a brief lyrical sparing session with fellow Brooklynite, rapper Troy Ave.  The short lived beef ended by Bada$$ via Instagram post took  a turn for the worst when Troy mentioned the Capital Steez suicide on his diss record “Bad Ass.”  Troy has since apologized for the line, but it left a bad taste in the mouths of several Hip-Hop artists.  The back and forth between the rappers started when Bada$$ released the single “Ready.”  In putting it all behind him, this week he released a new single, listen to Joey Badass Brooklyn’s own below…

Joey Bada$$, the Brooklyn bred emcee and his Pro Era crew stepped on to the scene with the 2012 mixtape release 1999.  The mixtape featured production from the likes of MF Doom, Lord Finesse and the late great, J Dilla. Featuring standout tracks like “Waves” and “Survival Tactics” 1999 garnered Joey praise from his Hip-Hop counterparts as well as blog sites like Complex , Stereo Gum and Pitchfork.  Just like that, the legend of Bada$$ was born.

With a style very reminiscent of the 90’s Hip-Hop era, Joey’s influence ranges from J Dilla to Nas and even Black Thought of The Roots fame can easily be heard in his music.  The standout lyricist also belongs to a 47-member crew called Pro Era. The crew took a big hit when one of its most memorable members, Capital Steez passing in late 2012.   Joey has done more than hold his own since the passing of Steez doing several tours and becoming one of the biggest independent artists in Hip-Hop.

The new track from Joey Badass Brooklyn’s Own is an ode to his hometown with a 90’s vibes reminiscent of fellow Brooklynites Duckdown emcees Buckshot and Smif-n-Wessun.  The track is produced by longtime collaborator Statik Selektah.  No word yet on an album, but Bada$$ has said that he has more than 80 songs ready to go and may release two albums this year.
