TV One Working On The Xscape Story, Executive Produced By Jermaine Dupri

TV One Films is taking their viewers all the way back into the 90’s, again, with unveiling plans for the release of another major film chronicling one of the major R&B groups of our generation. Who Can I Run to: The Xscape Story is set to take the viewers through tumultuous relationships between the members of the group, which include sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle – collectively known as the popular 90’s R&B quartet Xscape.

With a total of three consecutive platinum albums, along with 6 top 10 hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the 1990’s, which include the songs “Just Kickin’ It”, “Who Can I Run To”, “The Arms of the One Who Loves You” and “My Little Secret”, the group witnessed a vast amount of success that most artists don’t get to see.

As fate would have it, right at the height of their success and fame, the group ultimately disbanded. Xscape was the subject of an episode of the popular TV One show, “Unsung”, which highlights the life of famous, but underrated superstars.  The Xscape episode is still the highest-viewed episode in the history of the show and is the inspiration behind the film in the making.

This is the second Unsung episode being turned into a full-length film.  Last year, TV premiered Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, which is still the highest rated film in TV One history.

Who Can I Run To: The Xscape Story is set to have Jermaine Dupri, as an executive producer. Dupri is also the person who discovered the 90’s group and signed them to his label So So Def Recordings. Dupri of course is also the producer behind many of the group’s hits and he executive produced all three of their albums.  All the ladies are also involved in the creation of the film and have announced plans to perform at this year’s Essence Festival among other dates.
