Taking care of your skin is the key to having healthy and hydrated skin. With so many different products coming out in the market today, however, the once-simple routine of cleanse-tone-moisturize has seemingly become more complex. You will find several brands and products, each with convincing claims, that it becomes more challenging to make your purchases.

Coming up with a skin care routine can be challenging since you have to select the right skin care products. Doing so not only means knowing what products work best for your skin but also what products work together. Ultimately, there is no formula for you to follow when it comes to building a routine, but there are specific products that may be more suitable for you based on your skin type.

Dry Skin

If you are born with dry skin, you should use hydrating products and avoid alcohol or astringents that may cause dryness and irritability on your skin. Look out for hydrating ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or plant oils, all of which can give your skin moisture without any harsh effects. For extreme cases of dry skin, you may need to look for richer creams to achieve the moisture and hydration required for your skin.

Oily Skin

When dealing with oily skin, lightweight and oil-free products will be your best friend. Be wary about what skin care products you put together to ensure that the combination will not clog your pores or lead to more oil build-up. Gel-based products will likely be more suitable compared to cream-based products since the latter may lead to more oil production.

To control your skin’s oil production, look for products that are non-comedogenic or those that do not clog pores. Lighter formulations such as serums and lotions rather than ointments will work better for your skin. With regards to ingredients, try checking product labels and look for ingredients like retinol and salicylic acid, both of which can help with your oil glands’ function.

Combination Skin

Finding the right products for combination skin may be one of the biggest challenges as you have to deal with patches of oily and dry skin. Most of the time, you may find that your T-zone is oilier than other parts of your skin. Thus, you can look for products with mild and gentle formulas with light textures to help control the oily areas and maintain hydration.

Toner will assist in balancing your skin’s pH level, and a retinol serum will be effective in targeting the oily and dry areas of your skin. When choosing hydrating products, make sure you select non-greasy and lightweight creams to prevent possible clogging of your pores.

Sensitive Skin

Have you ever experienced trying out a new product, only to be left with a burning sensation on your skin? With sensitive skin, you have to be cautious with the skin care products you choose so as not to cause any unwanted irritation or redness. Most of the time, products that contain fragrances, alcohol, or harsh exfoliants may cause stinging in sensitive skin, so try looking for those that have gentle formulas.

Fortunately, there are several products out in the market to help you care for your sensitive skin. When checking labels, try looking for products with active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and niacinamide, which are also hypoallergenic. It can be nerve-wracking trying out new products when you have sensitive skin, so doing some research beforehand will help you avoid skin flare-ups or irritations.
