You will never forget your first dance with your bride or groom to be. It will be a memory that stays with you for as long as you walk on the Earth – it will be a memory that will serve you well in times of hardship, and a memory that will be forever cherished. The bride and groom’s first dance is an integral part of our wedding culture and something that will be incumbent upon you.

When the DJ calls your name to the dance floor, the lights dim, and your family gathers around, you know exactly what time it is. The first dance can be angst-provoking, awkward, and a lot of fun! This page will tell you how you can have the perfect first dance on your wedding day.

Find a DJ

It is important, before going on to explain how you can prepare for your dance, that you prepare the second most important thing besides that: the DJ. If you do not have a DJ, you will have nothing to dance to! The professionals from findadj.co.nz/, a New Zealand-based DJ agency, explain that while choosing a DJ can be difficult, when you find the right one, it can be a lot of fun. Choose your DJ carefully and find only those with the best reviews and the most experience so that your day goes off without a hitch. Unprepared, unprofessional, and inexperienced DJs can really ruin your day. Pick carefully and thoughtfully.

Experience

When thinking about stepping onto the dance floor for the first time, you may think that experience is necessary – no, not at all. A first dance does not need to be Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. You will not be expected to dance as if you were a master of ballet, nor will you be expected to do anything but make a fool of yourself. The social media generation has lessened the burden upon brides and grooms, and now everybody simply expects a blunder or mishap to occur on the dance floor. Letting go can be healthy, too. You needn’t worry about being the best dancer of all on your wedding day, just have fun, no experience necessary…

Party

Dancing in front of a huge audience, especially with no formal dancing experience, can be very awkward and angst-provoking. Instead of dancing for the duration of the entire song in front of hundreds of gawking eyes, after you have had your dance, whether it be a minute or a few, beckon other guests onto the dance floor and turn it into a party. This will be a good way to make the wedding party fun and engaging and will be a fantastic way to take the stress off of yourselves.

Practice

While experience is not necessary, practice is. You must at least have some form of a routine prepared for when you venture onto the dance floor. If you do not have any routine, nor preparations, you will not have a single clue what to do. Practice for a few weeks in advance so that when the day finally arrives you can at least give some kind of display to your guests. You do not need to be good you just need to know what your routine is and follow it as best you as you can. Your partner will likely be feeling exactly the same and you can stay strong together.

Rehearse in Dress

When you are rehearsing for your wedding dance, it is recommended that you rehearse in your wedding shoes and clothes. If you do not, when you do put them on, you may become awkward and stiff and be unable to complete your routine.

Perfect First Dance - Holding Hands

Rehearsing fully dressed is a fantastic way to prepare properly and to be ready for the moment that the spotlight hits you and your partner. If you are the bride, wear a heavy dress, so as not to let the groom see your dress before the wedding (it’s bad luck!).

Relax

As was mentioned previously, your first dance is likely to be angst-provoking, and likely to give you considerable anxiety. Relaxing, taking a deep breath, and not taking yourself so seriously is the only way that you can truly prepare for your first dance, lest a panic attack occurs. If you are not prepared to be laughed at, stared at, and cheered on, you better be, because there’s no way out of it! Relax as much as you can and remember that nobody is expecting you to be the best dancer in the world, in fact, quite the opposite.

Now, with the help of this page, you know how you can have a perfect first dance with your bride or groom. Your wedding day will be a day that you never forget, so it is critical that you prepare and make it as memorable and joy-filled as you can. Don’t panic, get on with it, you will laugh about it in years to come!
