According to the national institute of mental health, almost 31% of adults living in the US develop anxiety disorder at a point in their life, while 264 million people have depression, according to the WHO. Living with anxiety or depression can be a great challenge in your life. However, there are several things you can do to ease the symptoms of these conditions, alongside therapy. Read on to learn some of them.

1. Exercise

Exercising regularly is one way of easing depression and anxiety. Exercising leads to the production of endorphins, the feel-good hormones helping you feel better. Additionally, it acts as a distraction from worrying and having negative thoughts. And you also don’t have to do rigorous exercises. A few minutes of walking or jogging are enough.

2. Use Cannabis Products

Cannabis products have become very popular in recent years. Studies have shown that cannabis has the ability to alter the levels of serotonin in the body. Serotonin is the hormone responsible for stress, moods, and emotional regulation. Consuming cannabis products such as blue dream, white window, and frosted cookies strain may help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety symptoms.

3. Get Adequate Sleep

There is a link between mental health and sleep. Having sleeping disorders can be a sign of depression. Also, depression can cause sleeping problems. Lack of adequate sleep can throw your system out of whack, worsening the symptoms of depression and anxiety. If you have problems with sleeping, you can create a good routine and stick to it. These may include going to bed at the same time every day and chilling some minutes before bedtime by reading a book, avoiding digital devices, and listening to music.

4. Eat Healthily

Depression can affect your appetite. Some people avoid eating when depressed, while others overfeed. Antidepressants can also interfere with your appetite greatly. Try as much as you can to take a balanced diet and avoid overeating, as it can lead to more problems.

Additionally, avoid foods like refined sugars, caffeine, and processed foods as they can worsen your symptoms. Instead, take fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein meals.

5. Take Some Time Off To Relax

If you are ever busy, try as much as you can to set some time to relax. You can do these by taking nature walks, listening to music and watching a tv show. Additionally, you can practice techniques like meditation, yoga, massage therapy, breathing exercises, and yoga. Relaxing helps you recover from depression and anxiety and gives you energy.

6. Get A Support Network

When you have depression or anxiety, staying alone can worsen your symptoms. One of the best things you can do is form a strong support network with friends or family to cope with mental health issues. Interacting with others can boost your moods. Also, when you have a strong social network, you can easily open up about how you feel to someone and feel better.

7. Seek Treatment

If you have symptoms of depression, it’s important to seek treatment and follow the recommendations. A mental health doctor will assess you and recommend the best treatment approaches to help you feel better. Even if you adopt other coping mechanisms, seeing a doctor is still important. The doctor may recommend therapy, medications, or both depending on your condition.

Depression and anxiety can greatly interfere with your life. It can even get worse when you have both conditions. Luckily, you can cope with these conditions by practicing some lifestyle changes such as eating healthily and consuming products that can help with your condition. Also, seeking help from your friends or family can help you cope with symptoms of these conditions. Most importantly, it’s advisable to seek help from a mental health practitioner.
