It’s ‘About Damn Time’ Lizzo dropped the Special Album and it’s almost here.
The last time Lizzo dropped an album, Cuz I Love You, was in 2019 when she surprised fans by featuring Missy Elliott and Gucci Mane.
Lizzo has now confirmed July 15 as the release date for her new album Special, via Nice Life/Atlantic Records. The album’s release date was announced alongside a sneak peek at the album’s black-and-white cover art, which portrays Lizzo wearing an armor-inspired helmet.
“I think that the music really is going to speak for itself,” Lizzo said about the Special album in an interview with Apple’s Zane Lowe.
“I’m writing songs about love from every direction, and I hope that I can turn a little bit of the fear that’s been running rampant in this world, energetically into love. That’s the point. I had a lot of fear, and I had to do the work on myself, and this music is some of that work in turning that fear into love. I hope that when people listen to this album, it makes their day just a little bit better, a little bit more filled with love” she said.
In this “About Damn Time” music video, Lizzo can be seen serving it hot in both visuals and vocals. Speaking on the new video, Lizzo remarked, “”About Damn Time” can lead into so many conversations.”
When asked about the inspiration behind “About Damn Time” in a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Lizzo said “It’s about damn time I feel better, it’s about damn time we get out this pandemic. It’s about damn time we to get the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. There’s so many things. It’s about damn time we popped the champagne. It’s about damn time the tequila got here.”
On Instagram a few days ago, Lizzo teased “About Damn Time” calling it “the song of the summer” — a claim that resonates true given the singer’s embrace of disco’s vibrant rhythms and melodies.
