Back in the 90s, Vanilla Ice stunned the hip hop world with his dance moves, cheesy bars, funky haircut and smash single “Ice Ice Baby.” Perhaps, even more shocking, is the rapper was proposed to by pop icon Madonna. After meeting at one of his Palladium shows in New York, Vanilla Ice and Madonna dated for a short period. On Tuesday, the 55-year-old hip hop star recalled the relationship on a podcast: “Things were going so crazy and fast, man.”
Vanilla Ice went on about being proposed to by Madonna: “I was just like, ‘What?! I thought the guy was supposed to do that [propose]. What do you mean? Wait a minute. This is too fast. I’m just getting started here and I’m way too young for this!’ “So, yeah. It was crazy. The more I think about it the more crazy it was.” Ice was in his early twenties when they initially met, and he said he spotted Madonna (in her thirties at the time) at his show in the audience “dancing her a*s off”.
The “Vanilla Sprite” singer recalled after his show how Madonna walked into his dressing room to ‘say hi’, and he confessed that her star status made him feel a bit “intimidated.” “I remember she came back to the dressing room and said hello to me,” Vanilla Ice continued. “And she kind of gave me the sexy eyes and I was like… ‘Well she’s really too old for me, so I must be mistaken on that.’”
Charles Koppelman (Jenny Hutt‘s father) informed Vanilla Ice that the “Material Girl” singer had the hots for him and set the pair up on a date in NYC at The Palm restaurant. The date went well, and Ice and Madonna started dating. Nonetheless, the two soon split after Madonna wrote about him in her book “Sex” (1992) without first getting his approval. The Texas native clarified that when the book was released he and the singer were still dating, however, due to his toiling career he was unaware it had been published.
