Have you dreamed of booking a vacation to the beautiful Hawaiian islands? It holds the top spot of where US travelers want to visit the most. It’s because they’ve seen the beautiful beaches, sunsets, and volcanoes in their favorite movies.

Are you prepared with your 10 essential items to pack for Hawaii? The Hawaiian islands have a hot and humid climate.

Keep reading to discover the best packing list for Hawaii vacation.

  1. Invest in the Right Suitcase

Before you go on vacation to Hawaii, investing in the right suitcase is essential. After all, paradise awaits and you need to make sure your items get to paradise safely. Choose a suitcase that is durable and will last through multiple vacations. Make sure to look for something with wheels, so you don’t have to lug your bag around!

Get a bag that won’t be too bulky and fits airline restrictions. Now that you have the perfect suitcase, it’s time to start packing! Filling it with the essential items that will make your travel to Hawaii complete.

  1. Lightweight Clothing

Lightweight clothing is essential when packing for a Hawaiian vacation. The Hawaiian summertime heat may cause hours of sweating and cause discomfort due to the heaviness.  Choosing clothing materials like linen or cotton may help absorb sweat and keep you cool.

It is essential to avoid heavy materials like denim or leather as they could cause unnecessary sweat and discomfort during the hot months. Be sure to bring along a variety of lightweight and breathable items in light colors and prints in order to stay cool for your Hawaii vacation. Lightweight clothing includes tank tops, shorts, lightweight pants and skirts, and these boho dresses for women.

  1. Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential item to pack for a Hawaii vacation. To best protect your skin, look for a sunscreen that block both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of 30 or higher. If you plan to be near or in the water, choose a waterproof sunscreen that has water resistance of at least 80 minutes, and be sure to reapply after swimming or towel drying.

When selecting a sunscreen, look for zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as active ingredients. Both are “mineral sunscreens” and are considered to be among the most reliable when it comes to blocking the sun’s rays. Wear sunscreen every day on exposed areas of your skin, and don’t forget to put some on your lips.

  1. Hat and Sunglasses

Not only do they make an ideal fashion statement on the islands, but they are also an effective way to prevent sunburns and sun damage. Bring a good quality, wide-brimmed hat, preferably one that can roll up for easier packing.

Choose sunglasses with 100% UVA and UVB protection and sturdy frames for long-lasting wear. Polarized lenses can also help you enjoy the stunning coasts of Hawaii with improved clarity and less glare. If you wear contacts, lenses like Air Optix Colors can combine vision correction with comfort and a touch of style, making your outdoor adventures even more enjoyable.

  1. Insect Repellent

The island can also be home to a wide variety of insects. Many species of mosquitoes on the islands can make it difficult to enjoy the great outdoors and bring the risk of infection from potential illnesses like Zika, Dengue, and Chikungunya

Bringing insect repellent with DEET, permethrin, or picaridin is the best way to ensure peace of mind during a Hawaii vacation. It’s also good to spritz clothing with permethrin to keep insects from getting through the fabric.

  1. Swimwear and Beach Essentials

Swimwear and beach essentials are a must to make sure you’re ready to make the most of your time in paradise! Whether you prefer bikinis or board shorts, it’s important to bring pieces made from fabric that’s quick drying, like nylon or spandex.

Having the right items with you on your Hawaii vacation will ensure that you can take advantage of all the outdoor activities without having to worry about forgetting anything!

  1. Hiking Shoes or Sandals

Appropriate footwear can ensure that you can make the most of your time on the island and explore its beautiful landscapes. Hiking shoes with ankle support are ideal since they provide a good grip on the terrain and keep your feet comfortable and safe.

If you prefer a more airy option, then sandals with a good sole are the way to go. Be sure to pick shoes that are secure to avoid any unnecessary slips. Variety is key too to make sure that your feet are comfortable for different types of terrain and activities.

  1. Lightweight Rain Jacket

Nothing can disrupt a beach day faster than a surprise rain shower. A lightweight jacket is usually waterproof and easily folds up into a small package, making it perfect for traveling. A rain jacket provides protection from the elements while remaining lightweight and comfortable.

The most important thing is to make sure it is high quality and breathable, so that it doesn’t become unbearably hot while walking around in the sun. Once packing for the trip, don’t forget to toss in a lightweight rain jacket for the chance of rainy weather, and enjoy the beautiful paradise of Hawaii.

  1. Water Bottle

Bringing your own water bottle helps you stay hydrated and save money compared to buying bottled water while you’re away. Make sure you get a durable, BPA-free water bottle that is easy to open and close.

If you’re planning on long hikes or outdoor activities, you should consider buying a water bottle that comes with a filter and can purify wilderness water for you. You’ll also want to get a secure lid for your water bottle to prevent it from spilling.

  1. Snorkeling Gear

To ensure you get the most out of your time underwater, it is a good idea to bring your own gear. Invest in a good snorkel mask, fins and a snorkel tube, as well as a few handy accessories like anti-fog solution and safety whistles.

Pack a mesh bag or tote to keep all of your snorkeling gear in one place, and make sure to ash and dry everything after each use. From colorful coral to friendly sea life, paradise awaits!
