With her shining star continuing to rise, Goldiie Lux, née Naomi Simonne Summers, who hails from Santa Barbara, California, by way of Oxnard, has already captivated audiences with her unique sound and captivating journey. Goldiie’s story is one of transformation, resilience, and the power of music. Get to know her with our Goldiie Lux interview.

Parlé Mag: How did it all begin for Goldiie Lux?
Goldiie Lux: I became interested in music around the same time that I started college. It was towards the end of the peak SoundCloud era, and seeing how many people were emerging from it into artists that became known around the world. I wanted to do the same thing, so I started going to the studio and laying lyrics down to rap tracks. After about a year of doing that, someone mentioned that they can hear more power behind my voice and suggested trying some singing tracks. I found that I really liked it and was able to share stories in a way that was more authentic to me, and you can hear that progression in the new music I’ve been releasing.

Parlé Mag: As a songwriter, when you sit down to pen your lyrics where do you draw inspiration from?
Goldiie Lux: I draw inspiration from taking the time to sit down and giving myself time to process what’s going on in my life. Some days I’m feeling like a Bad B— and others I feel vulnerable, and I take those emotions and create a space for them to be heard, which is what I hope to bring to others when they listen to my songs.

Parlé Mag: Your single, “Feeling Psycho Again” is out.  Tell me about the song.
Goldiie Lux: “Feeling Psycho Again” is a song you’ll hear exclusively in my latest music video. It combines two songs from my EP and stitches them into one, and I wanted to do this to mirror how I feel in relationships, where different stages blend together and can bounce back and forth. The idea was to bring this feeling to life in the video and I’m really happy with how it came out.

Parlé Mag: So let’s talk about those first 2 songs: “Feel Again” and “Psycho” are from the EP…
Goldiie Lux:
The first two tracks on my new EP, Toxic Lullabies. The story I wanted to tell with these tracks was how in any type of toxic relationship, you go through the stages of wanting to open up and “feel again” with this new person, and the more you learn about them you become go crazy head over heels, and at times you may act “psycho,” until you ultimately realize they aren’t good for you and you wish you could take back the energy you put into them which comes through on the final track, “Unfuk U.”

Parlé Mag: You’re signed to South Coast Music Group [SCMG].  How’d that come together?
Goldiie Lux: It was really by chance, and being in the right place at the right time. I met Arnold Taylor at the Universal Music Group party during Grammy week, and we exchanged info and I sent over some of the music I was working on at the time. He decided to take a chance on me by signing me to his label, South Coast Music Group, which I’m super grateful for, seeing how much my sound and my vision has grown from that point.

Parlé Mag: Now you’re a native of Santa Barbara, CA, correct? So growing up in ‘The American Riviera,’ who do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?
Goldiie Lux: I consider myself a So-Cal native; I was born in and went to college in Santa Barbara but grew up in Oxnard, which is about an hour south. I grew up at the same time YouTube was becoming really big, so I had access to a whole new world of music and really fell in love with that. I draw inspiration from artists like Kelis, M.I.A, and Lorde, because they all took the world by storm with refreshing sounds that hadn’t really been around before.

Parlé Mag: And how do you classify your overall sound?
Goldiie Lux: I consider my overall sound to be Alternative Pop and R&B. I feel like there are two sides to my music, which you get a hint of on my latest project, Toxic Lullabies. I’m super excited to be part of this emerging era where an artist can have multiple sounds that embody their ideas and still pull focus by being authentic to themselves.

Parlé Mag: If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Goldiie Lux: If I could collaborate with anyone, it’d have to be Timbaland. He’s a musical genius and played a huge role in shaping the music I grew up listening to, and it’d be super cool to hear what we came up with together. Honestly, I want to bring back a time when music was about the art instead of this whole clickbait thing we got going now where it’s not so much about the music, but how far you’re willing to go to get 5 minutes of fame.

Parlé Mag: If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?
Goldiie Lux: If I had my pick of any venue in the world to play at, I’d choose the Hollywood Bowl because being from California, I feel that’d be a stamp of approval amongst peers and family… and it’d be an awesome accomplishment in and of itself.

Parlé Mag: What’s an average day like for you?
Goldiie Lux: An average day for me is making breakfast and tea when I get up, then I go on a run and sing out loud to work on breathing control. When I’m back home, I get ready for my day and listen to scary stories while I do my makeup… then if I have time, I’ll play some Hogwarts Legacy, my favorite game right now. After that, I’ll go to the studio and do vocal warm-ups, and then record, or spend the afternoon writing. As it gets dark, I like to watch something while I’m making dinner, lately I’ve been obsessed with American Horror Story, then I’ll meditate or read to unwind.

Parlé Mag: What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?
Goldiie Lux: My favorite part about being an artist is not having a set schedule. I love having the time to find new interests and being able to put a genuine effort in for the people and activities I love. My least favorite part about this line of work is having to deduce who’s actually a good person and has your best interests at heart. It’s easy to get caught up in chasing your dreams and you have to remember to take a step back and separate the people who are just selling you dreams and those who can actually help you down the right path.

Parlé Mag: What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Goldiie Lux: My advice to someone wanting to follow in my footsteps is do your research! I spend a lot of time finding people who inspire me, and finding who they work with and what they do / have done to get to where they are now. If I love how someone looks in a photoshoot, I’ll reach out to the stylist. If I see a live performance that inspires me, I’ll email the page I saw them on. Music nowadays is not just about putting out songs, but the way you’re able to tell the story and find people along the way that help bring ideas to life.

Parlé Mag: As for the immediate, what’s next for Goldiie Lux?
Goldiie Lux: I’m super excited to share that I have a few singles lined up that I plan on releasing over the next few months, and the music video for “Unfuk U” is coming out super soon, so be on the lookout for that!
